I had this issue with one of my walls, too. I played around with the placement a little and eventually found one that stopped them from walking past it. If you give villagers things to do near the walls and watch their behavior you can see if it’s effective. If a villager can slip past, so can a raider.
“Your post’s title is literally: “Make raiders attack from just one direction”, so it’s not a disingenuous strawman at all. That’s literally what you asked for!”
If you only read the title of a thread and respond to that, instead of the actual post that explains the problem, your contribution misses the point entirely and is utterly useless to the discussion. Please take 20 seconds to read the post next time, before responding to it.
“There is literally nothing stopping you from defending from multiple directions. Nothing.”
I explained in detail what made this problematic. If you lack the intelligence to understand those basic English sentences, once again, responding to me becomes pretty pointless.
“Maybe it’s better if you actually learn how to play the game properly before you complain that it’s broken.”
Blaming the players for “not playing the game properly” when they point out flaws in a game is the most immature way you could possibly react to constructive criticism. Fortunately, you seem the only one here clutching their pearls like a total Karen because you perceive this threat to be an attack on the game or something. So I’ll just stop responding to you and focus on the much more useful contributions by all the functional adults here. Have a nice day.
“If you don’t mind, let me give you a few tips. First off, that is too many gates. If you have 20 entrances into town, then you have to spread your defenses thin or overuse your workforce defending them. Cut down on the gates. Your villagers can walk a little further no problem.”
It’s kind of a payoff at the moment, because walking times are very long already due to the sheer size of the settlement, I want to make the routes to the various crop fields and outposts as direct and efficient as possible. I’m also considering to start a new settlement and just build more compactly, that’s clearly a mistake I made early in the game that I can’t fix anymore now.
“Second is what many refer to as an airlock system (as shown in this screenshot from my village:)”
I do like how that looks. Maybe I should try to build something like that. It will take many years for it to be completed though, another limiting factor I walk into constantly is the slow building speed, especially of walls and fences, due to builders working verry inefficiently at the moment. But it could be a project for the next 10 years or something, and I would just have to suffer the annoyance of having to micromanage every next raid and having to pause every second to redistribute my troops. And for some sides at least it would be quicker, because at one side there are several lakes and I won’t need to build as many new walls.
But the greatest thing, I think, is that you would need fewer towers at least, and not as much of a drain on your workforce by not having to employ as many guards.
Anyway, great tips, I think I can use your setup really well to try to better funnel the raiders to where I want them to go.
I’m already implementing @Resonance 's wall system and it is doing quite well for me (so far).
I hope you are all enjoying the discussion. Please refrain from questioning other people’s abilities. Everyone has their own experience, expectations and wishes. Getting these different perspectives is valueable for the devs, but ultimately they decide on what is best for their game. Maintain a friendly and open atmosphere and all of us can enjoy being part of this community. TYVM
