Make the game more responsive by adding animation cancelling

Allow us to ‘feint’, by loading the start-up animation for an attack, and then cancel it by moving elsewhere. I provided similiar feedback to Torchlight 2 back in the day, but the developers never paid heed to it.

With simple video editing, I managed to showcase what exactly I want when it comes to the movement.
I know it features Torchlight 2, but I think you’ll get the point.

animation cancelling will make players overpowered. will also open potentials for bug/exploit like numbers becoming weird due to excessive animation cancelling.

increasing attack/cast speed will make player character’s animation much more responsive, smoother, snappier. player still need to think tactically about the best timing for attack/cast to avoid dangerous moment where enemy land huge damage when player is in mid attack/cast animation. also watch out for enemies that can heavily slows player down. gears/skills that provide slow resistance will be very helpful in this case.

iirc, in late game torchlight 1 & 2, players can potentially achieve huge attack/cast speed with the right items. making animation cancelling unnecessary.

i think some devs choose to not use animation cancelling to add challenges to the game (slow characters need to be more careful) and to make the animations more fluid and immersive.

AFAIK animation cancelling already exists in GD for certain skills such as Forcewave (w/ and w/o Tremor). The greatest practical application IMHO is when you need to chain together several cooldown skills. Those skills can be ordered in such a way as to maximise the effect of animation cancelling.

You can already animation cancel backswings of various abilities by triggering a different ability during said backswing. If you had bero strikes and savagery for instance you could cancel one into the other to yield well above 200% AS (if you were sitting around 200ish to start)

To clarify, I meant only for the auto-attack. And of course there would be a ‘window’ to it. So it cant be cancelled too late into the animation.
