Making the plunge

I heard about this game believe it or not just yesterday. I have just recently upgraded my computer from a core2 Duo e8400 with a MSI Radeon HD 4850 (the 512MB version) to a i7-4790k GTX 970 computer. I was searching for must have games or top games for pc on Youtube from 2015 & 2016. On one of the more recent ones this game pops up. Basically looking for ideas of things to pick up besides the stuff that have their trailer plastered everywhere.

After about 5 or 10 seconds of seeing some game play footage of Grim Dawn it made me think of Diablo 2 and Diablo 3. I love games but I’m not the type of gamer that buys every game. I tend to try to find good games (as in games I personally enjoy playing) and then I play them for 100’s to 1000’s of hours over months or years. Both D2 and D3 were one of those games for me. I actually spent 2000 or so hours playing D3 (in the first 1.5 years of its existence) and enjoyed farming for gear mostly. Everything else felt too like I was forced to look for specific “named” gear for specific one or two plausible builds. Once they changed how higher end stuff dropped (around the time when it was released on consoles and later with RoS) I was done and haven’t played it since. I even tried to play D2 again but after upgrading my computer I wanted something that looked a bit more up to date. I was craving a loot/build game to sink my teeth into.

After seeing my first Grim Dawn video I had to watch another and another. Then I had to check review sites and couldn’t really find anyone saying anything bad about the game. I don’t need the game to be like the DIablo series or Titan Quest (sorry to say I never played that game) I just want something to give me a reason to keep looking for loot and come up with new skill build ideas. This game looks like exactly what I’m looking fow…so I’m making the plunge. Already added $25 to my steam account and am about to download now. If I like it I’ll make sure to get all my D2 and D3 buddies to check out the game if they haven’t already.

Good luck with your success I hope that you do well and are able to build upon the game in whichever way you see fit.

I just realized I could have bought the game through you guys instead of steam. I would have done that as I’m sure steam takes a cut.

I fear for you…GD will consume your time very nicely, I suspect.

Given that Grim Dawn is Titan Quest’s spiritual successor and is built using the TQ engine you might want to give Titan Quest Gold edition a try sometime. Sure it’s old now, but still a lot of fun.

Sometimes it’s good to know you’re playing a game with an active community though

Indeed it is, but you’ll find the forum over at www.titanquest.net is active - small, but active. There are several mods for the game there too, once you’ve played the original for a bit and some challenges to test your player skills if you find the main game too easy after a while.

Well played 7.5 hours straight…still learning what I want to do with my build…but loving it so far. I’ll definitely check out Titan Quest at some point…but I think Grim Dawn will be taking up a lot of my time, at least for the coming months.

Good job Crate.
