is there any good reason why map markers/icons disappear when our character moves away from their respective poi? View range would be silly, I also can’t see through walls, rocks and hills. Why can’t cave entrances and such stay visible on the map after we found them?
Is it a technical reason? A limitation of the engine? Or what was the reasoning behind it? It just makes it harder to revisit places, we want to clear again or which we want to revisit to find secrets we might have missed earlier and I really don’t feel like making screenshots and marking the entrances on those.
Please do the good thing and and make map markers permanent (at least on the respective map we are on at a given moment).
The map marker thing and a few other minor gameplay inconveniences really don’t fit the overall greatness of the game.
Thank you so much for maybe considering this (if it’s technically possible and reasonably effortless).
This may be the reason. From the 27th July stream:
"enkrypter
:One of my biggest issues with Grim Dawn is that I get lost trying to find quest locations, are there any plans to improve map marking for quest zone areas? PS. I’ve never finished the base game because of frustration issues and lack of patience.
You’re not going to like my answer because we kind of deliberately wanted Grim Dawn to be about discovery and exploration and the quest NPCs who give you the quest and the dialogue and also the quest log gives you directions on where to go and when you get close to a quest target that’s when it shows on the mini-map. And that is by design, it’s not something like oh well we could still improve. We actually wanted it to be this way and I do realise that that isn’t for everybody."
Also some caves have several spawn locations on the map so don’t have a marker at all.
Exploring the map and finding the locations through following the directions given is all well and good, I wouldn’t want all locations presented on a silver platter and I too like exploring , I just wished my char would mark those locations already visited on his map.
I fail to see how that would go against the vision the developers had.
