Anyone managed to explore all map sizes and willing to post comparisons?
I’m sure there is some madlad who actually did it.

They did; see the FF wiki
Small is good for starting. But once your town gets big you’ll probably struggle to have enough resources (even wood).
Large is … huge. Too much for the game in its current form. Logistics in the game will make it miserable for you if you get too far from the main city. And loading times are horrible.
Medium is what I find to be the best compromise. Loading times are good, enough resources even with a big city (you’ll eventually run out for non renewables of course, but at least wood is OK).
Comparisons between the 3 sizes? The width of the “large” map is about 2.5 times the width of the “small” map, with “middle” being of course “at the middle”.
Actually once the game will be in very late development (read: more contents, more buildables, more options, more stored resource management, more optimization) a “very large” or “huge” version would be appreciated by those who like to found new settlements across the map, maybe by sending carts with the needed resources to start a new village which can eventually grow into a sister city.
