Markovian's Defense

Has anyone figured out a practical use of this modifier yet? Just curious, I haven’t played in a while and was trolling around with GrimTools and I remembered this was recently added.

The transmuter reduces total damage done that effectively reduces your life steal capabilities and hence gimping survivability. I was told it’s useful in the Crucible but I can’t see how unless the build has 1-1.5k + high HP regen (which is possible to achieve).
Although it seems one would have a better time with Bloodthirster and a little kiting than with Markovian’s Defense from the looks of it. Vanilla Overguard seems to save your ass more than MD

And even if you go full Rambo in the offense to compensate for the damage loss it will leave your build vulnerable in times when OG is down.

I could be wrong since I am a little out of touch with the game but in the current state of things isn’t Markovian’s Defense extremely useless and impractical?

Btw, an unrelated question. Do I need to play the old Shadowrun games to try the new one (Shadowrun Hong Kong)? I know I can google this stuff but I am afraid of spoilers :stuck_out_tongue: and a little bit lazy

I played with it a lot. You are either ok with the damage loss or not.

You can build MArkovian tank with tanky devotions and 100% uptime Overguard, Offensive Markovian with 100% uptime OVerguard for the final 2 waves of crucible.

Or Warborn same as above but no 100% uptime.

Maybe good for HC self found players while elveling.

Otherwise i’m not very fond of it. Markovian proc was cut in half and also 2 seconds added to Overguard CD.

Hopefully empowered markovain will fix some of this

How can it be good for HC, it cuts life steal right?

Some people won’t have a lot of life steal items, That Absorb is super strong early to mid game and you can regen a lot woth it and Bulwark.

But yes you do lose lifesteal so you are kinda forced to go with more defensive devotions to make sure you can withstand a war of attrition with your enemies, which is the philosophy behind the transmuter.

I’ve managed this (full retard face tank wave 149 sharz+sentinel & CO) with Commando and Blademaster (huge DA, like 3000). Defensive devotions and for offense only Dire Bear, Rhowan’s scepter and Anvil.

It’ s brick wall, can have 100% success rate in cruci, good for HC but so sooooo slow. Be prepared to finich cruci without 10x timer:cool:

Hmm makes sense I guess. So it’s for a different build style all together and not meant for conventional setups?

I can’t say for sure what it’s for, only Crate knows that i think lol.

I only tried to make sense of it in my own way.

Well, I guess you could use it to bolster some otherwise glassy builds.

But then, building a glass build with soldier and shield is a form of art, isn’t it?

Like this?:D:

A good glass cannon build like this on will kill fast enough not to need Mark Defense whereas phys build enters a vicious circle with this transmuter where you need to stack up more defense.

Wait that’s a glass build?

He is wearing the equivalent of a T-shirt:p

also it’s hard to be an actual glass cannon with soldier mastery and a shield.

This was exactly the point I was trying to make…maybe I should hone my writing skills…or just stress that I’m not a native english speaker, that always works too.

Your writing skills are fine. I din’t catch on to that. (Or perhaps sarcasm again? Beats me  )

i was thinking of actual builds because having soldier is no guarantee to survive crucible. It’s mostly experience that gets the maker of that build through crucible like that. One could die in an instant still.

I have made a lot of commando builds and I have never felt the urge to choose Markovian’s defense. It doesn’t appeal to me and I think it isn’t offering anything of use (you still have a cooldown right? unless I am mistaken). I think you better spent those points elsewhere.

Yes it shaves off the CD by a little
