Mass Effect: Andromeda - Is it really that bad?

That’s pretty much par for the course for games nowadays (for the most part, not with Crate, however!) is to shove it out the door with the “I’ll patch it later” attitude. Sure there are some bugs that take time to fix, but ME:A’s issues are deep rooted issues with writing and quality of skill problems in the models. Also there is this Gameplay Designer on staff:

He left Bioware.

I personally get so tired about people crying about stuff like this. Sure its bad for a companies image to have an employer like that openly spout his views. But gamers are such emotionally weak crybabies these days where everyone is offended by something stupid. Get a reality check with that white knighting bullshit and go care about stuff that actually matters in life.

I couldn’t care less about stuff like this. There are plenty of real reasons to boycot certain companies and not buy their products any more.

Deadlines can’t be pushed back easily for big releases. Too many parties involved that would lose HUGE chunks of money. Then again my believe is to have more lenient deadlines and more realistic budgets.

ps
80 hours. final battle. it keeps crashing during that fight :’(

Yea, totally. But some people think racism matters. Go figure.

[Never mind. Not worth it.]

I’m still waiting for the white supremacy I benefit from to pay my bills.

Agreed. But tempting, all the same, to reply.

Well the promised message of upcoming “Fixes” has been posted. Some things I find odd, but I suppose it is commendable in some degree as well.

For one I still find it odd that developers/publishers crumble under gamer “pressure”. On the other hand with the new head honcho EA has been doing their best trying to be better. Origin has more regular discount sales, better attempts at listening to communities…but why is it done afterwards and not pro-actively? Oh well. At least they’re trying…right?

I have to say that after finishing the game last week there hasn’t been a feeling of wanting to go back. Andromeda did not leave me fulfilled nor did it leave a lasting impression like previous ME’s had.

“This Thursday, we’ll release a new patch that addresses technical fixes (crashes, improved performance), but also adds a number of improvements we’ve heard you ask for”

Ok so tomorrow a patch. Increasing inventory limits? that…never was an issue. Just sell your junk and get rid of lower tier stuff you’ll never use and the inventory is empty enough. You can clear all planets and such before having a full inventory. Really don’t see how this is an issue.

Improving eye appearances for humans and turians. Well for humans I understand. For Turians I’d work on fixing that you can see their tongues so clearly when they speak. And the tongue being a loose floaty thing. It is scary.

Localized lip syncing. Cool, but really not high on the priority list for many. Lip syncing is not that huge of a dealbreaker. The seizuring eye movements and weird mouth movements when laughing and such however is a big deal.

There will be more options for character creation. Which is nice since I only had 1 male, 1 female Ryder that I was happy enough to play with.

Improvements to male romance options… Uhm… ok. It is a nice bonus I guess. Peebee is too hyperactive for my taste, you never really have a lot of talking/bonding with Vetra. So that automatically leaves Cora. At least she has a nice ass and seems sweet and caring when you get to know her. And that short hair is something I can overlook and forgive due to lack of better options.

Hainly Abrams gets a pass on dialogue. Hopefully they’ll also check Addison. Man she really gets on my nerves. I don’t get how someone that childish/stupid can be in charge of colonisation. As for that ginger engineer on the Tempest is just an annoying twat. You get those in life as well so just ignore him. You don’t have too like everyone.

started a new character on insanity. the early part of the game is indeed very punishing and difficult to get through. If you go to insanity a little bit later in the game it gets progressively easier though. HAven’t touched NG+, might save that for a later playtrhough when there are dlc content available.

Haven’t had the issue of running out of ammo though. there are quite a few ammo chests to refill. but yeah they do take some beating when you only got a gun with 1 skill :stuck_out_tongue:

For now just letting the game be for what it is. plenty of other fun games in the mean time.

The spawn locations for battles will pretty much stay no matter how much % viability you have. Both Remnant and Kelt camps/drops exist.

I recently bought ME:A for PS4, as I’ve been waiting for a new RPG to play. Holy crap is the text small and hard to read. I wish I would have just bought the PC version. I can’t believe there is no option to increase the text size. I can BARELY even read what the quests say. Haha. :o Yeah, I admit that I’m pretty much totally blind, but I can’t even imagine people with decent eyesight even enjoying having to squint at the text in this game. I really hope a future patch fixes this issue for blind people like me. :undecided:

with the mouse you can rotate the camera during conversation though. not sure on a console version of the game.

i just keep a spare gun with “vintage” heatsink mod on it. actually a sniper rifle. i only carry sniper rifles

for my is a very good game!

So I’ve been playing ME:A, and I quickly figured out that there is a lot of DRIVING!! Seriously, Bioware should have named the game SPACE TRUCK 2000. Spent countless hours driving around on that dirt planet trying to figure up the logic and illogic of not only the vehicle itself, but my own brain. The driving feels so ailen to me, I can’t even remember what my fingers are doing on the controller. I get stuck trying to climb mountains, hit what I think is the 4X4 button, roll down mountain, curse. The visual animation difference between going into 4x4 mode, and “normal” is so laughably subtle, that I actually had to smirk as I realized that such a thing can happen. It’s like that weird part in a dream that seems out of place. It’s a real mind-fuck, and to be frank, it’s quite too much really.

I barely seem to find combat. Spent so much time with The Nexus, digesting everything the game is teaching me, and started thinking, well this is one hell of a MOVIE now, how about some action? I’ve played the other 3 ME games, and enjoyed them to some extent, but these days I just don’t care anymore about story, every character, cut scenes, loves scenes, and dumb shit. I’ve been playing ARPG’s for so long that I barely give a fuck about these other RPGS, which makes me a little said, in fact. :o

As long as I’m stilling getting those DLC’s/expansions promised with the deluxe edition its just fine.

TL: DR - ME:A was built in basically 18 months, while Montreal was understaffed and under resourced, on top of Frostbite being a pain in the arse to work with since it wasn’t built to be a general purpose engine.

So yeah, ideally it would have had more time to stew, if not more fluffing resources put towards it to make the good ideas come up during the design phase workable. But of course, they didn’t and so we got the undercooked game that is Mass Effect: Andromeda. That and the 18 month sprint explains why the main plot was so half-arsed in places as such a short time wouldn’t have provided enough time for needed editing and bashing the plot into shape.

That explains why it felt so hollow and incomplete in many areas. It is impressive that they made that game in 18 months. It is still a shame it got put out for sale in that state however.

So…

I bought the Deluxe edition as a pre-order when it was available. I was aware that pre-orders bring certain risks with them. However one of the risks that wasn’t taken into consideration was that EA can change their side of the deal when they see fit…apparently.

Originally the Deluxe Edition promised all the things currently listed. It originally also included future DLC’s. So my reasoning was to pay the 80euro and be cheaper out in the long run. Since we all know EA loves charging lots for DLC’s it would end up being more then the 80euro in total.

As we know from the news is that we first get insulted by a game made in 18months and felt incomplete in many areas. I still had some fun with it here and there so I forgave it at the time. As with the past few games we’d probably end up with tons of patches/dlc’s to fix that.

Now there are rumors. One camp says there is a quarian singleplayer DLC coming out, while another camp refutes it. Saying there won’t be any DLC at all. Fair enough. We know how poorly EA has managed and is dealing with the whole Bioware situation. EA often gives the impression they are indecisive and don’t have a clue what they are trying to achieve.

Now my pet peeve… Just checked up on Origin, digital storefront for EA games. Apparently the Deluxe Box no longer includes future DLC’s. Which for me was the original premise to even buy that box since I don’t really care for all the other extra’s that don’t really add anything. EA has adjusted their side of the deal without informing those who bought the Deluxe package. We’re not getting any refunds or other forms of compensation either.

I can understand how a kickstarter campaign can’t live up to their promises. That’s why I don’t give them money until later in their projects. A large multi-billion dollar publisher however does have the resources to back up their claims and promises.

In short. I am personally done with EA and will not buy any future product coming out of their studio’s. Thankfully their last few games were mediocre and the future doesn’t hold that much promise. Whcih makes it that much easier to come to this decision.

Hope you guys will think things through as well. Do you want to give money to publishers/studio’s that change their side of the deal when they feel like it? Showing untrustworthy behavior? I know I don’t…
