Don’t use the Bull devotion then cause its even smaller. I agree they’re both a tad, just a tad, too small and really only hit enemies that (in Ultimate) should already be dead or dying if they’re that close to you.
But…they’re clearly melee devotions. Upping them to be similar to CT or expecting the mobs to be dead by the time they reach you would be something other than melee.
In fact, for my blademaster build I wonder if I wanna use falcon or maul. Falcon has a better AOE and single target but no stun. But for the stun monsters need to be quite close to make it ‘‘good’’. I just wish the AOE would be better for overall clearing speed since that’s the weakeness of dualwield build generally speaking.
I also don’t see many build around that proc. Making it more fun would be great.
Falcon is a bad comparison because it’s taken for it’s shotgun effect. If it didn’t shotgun noone would ever picked Falcon Swoop for AOE, I assure you. Maul, on the other hand, is taken for crowd control.
I’m not really against a buff to Maul’s range provided that everything else about it stays the same. It’s just no reasonable buff will make Maul more used than Falcon Swoop, because single target DPS is king.
You assuming things I didn’t even say. I talked only about the range, not the damage. I even said to lower the stun chance with a bigger range.
Thanks, that’s a long standing hobby of mine. I assume that people more or less think the same way, therefore I assume I can understand what are they thinking, and answer directly to that. I assume that I’m exactly on point more often than not as well.
Sorry, pretty tired from being (another assumption!) eloquent. What I actually want to say is: hands the fuck off of Maul, it’s reliable stun in a decent AOE is what’s good about it. It’s already finely tuned - actually outside of cheesy shotgun abilities (FS, probably BoW too) it has second best %weapon damage (after Blind Fury, which is - surprise - exactly what you are looking for, you just want it cheap), and as if it’s not enough it has a decent flat physical damage, which unlike other types can be converted to almost anything. Heck, it might had been a candidate for a nerf if stuff like FS wasn’t around. You complained that it’s worse than Callidor’s Tempest in terms of AOE, but why one of the best single target DPS builds would have an AOE comparable to the caster builds, if you want big AOE then play shitty mage that struggles with bosses, or at least hybrid, lol.
Callidor’s tempest is spammable, a reliant AOE skill. Maul is a proc which isn’t as reliant (15% chance). Futhermore, making the AOE of Maul a bit bigger and reducing is stun chance would actually make it about even on how effective it is. In fact the proc would affect further monsters.
Also, if you look at Blizzard proc it has better AOE and the chance to freeze isn’t as high at its max rank (40% chance). It’s not that everything as to be the4 same but Maul could feel better with a bigger AOE.
The thing is, you for whatever reason not content with it’s AOE and want bigger one. And prepaired to sacrifice stun chance which you consider unimportant for yourself. You didn’t suggest reducing it’s damage, because you find it important (yup, assuming stuff again). And I’m opposite - I consider this stun chance precious for myself. If the AOE was to be increased and I had a say in whether to proportionally decrease stun chance or damage I would’ve chosen damage. I do agree that Maul would win from AOE increase, just trading off the stun chance is not the way.
P.S. The low proc chance of Maul is one more reason not to reduce stun chance. :undecided:
P.P.S. for some reason it feels very satisfying to get back to playing my Maul-using trickster after this series of posts, so, uh, thanks I guess?
Not other dw classes really, but for bm the oleron proc is very nice for aoe. Decent damage, attack speed slow, can leech a lot off it with high lifesteal value and it procs 24/7. Blade spirit bound to blades of wrath or less ideally oleron is good for aoe too if you have belgothian carnage as you can have 3x blades up each doing their own proc
