Melee/Ranged Dual Wielding

I would LOVE to be able to wield a blade (or other melee weapon) and a pistol simultaneously. It is something of a classic trope after all, alternating between shooting more distant and slicing/chopping/smacking closer enemies.

unfortunately, this is not available in-game. you can only wield 2 pistols/2 swords.

Hence the request. I’d even be happy with a pistol/offhand set that came with a special attack skill that switched to an offhand swing animation (while still using the pistol stats, especially if the offhand offered some kind of melee only damage bonus) when targeting an enemy within melee range, at least when the skill was used as one’s default attack.

I tried something like it way back in the day, guns do some really wonky things when dual wielded with melee weapons. Reminded me of FF8’s gunblade…except totally borked.

Neither the tech nor the animations exist to make possible what you’re looking for though, and honestly, I’m not sure how well that would even play.

That reminds me, that I tried something like that with “Weapon Change” when I started Grim Dawn.

So even an attack skill (acquired from a gun/offhand set bonus) that changes the attack animation and sound effects when the enemy is in melee range to swinging a caster offhand (which looks like a sword), while still mechanically functioning as a pistol shot, is not in the realm of possibility?

Does something like that ever exist in other ARPG game, Zantai?

I honestly can’t imagine the character in-game using gun + sword. Seems really weird and unfocus. The skill design will be a nightmare too.

Meh tbh the inspiration came from D&D, where Drow will sometimes dual wield a rapier with a hand crossbow. Figured it was unlikely to be easy if at all possible but wouldn’t hurt to ask.

Take this Drow and get two scimitars. :wink:
