I was just wondering if mob levels scale to player levels or if they are static based on the area they are in?
Ive been rushing things slightly and not doing much side quests and now currently find mobs a good 7 levels above me. Does this mean I have gone too quickly and should go back a bit and farm a bit? Or is the mob levels scaling like this on purpose?
If I went back to the starting area would mob levels be my level or still level 1-5?
I just got to New Harbour and the game has gotten drastically more difficult as mobs are so much higher levels.
Both. Areas have a range of levels for their mobs within which mobs will scale to player level. In higher difficulties (Veteran, Elite, Ultimate) almost everything will be above the player’s level in a typical playthrough.
I do believe, at least in certain areas, that mobs do indeed scale up based on your level. Killed the boss in Depraved Sanctuary early on (I was Level 14, Boss was Level 21 … had to draw him out of the cage and kite to not die), and later went back for a bounty, and he was in his 30’s (but much easier to kill this time for some reason). I noticed this on other bounties in Devil’s Crossing that were repeats also. Just started bounties and such in Homeland, so not sure if this is the case also, but do believe that mobs indeed scale up at least somewhat to your level.
Some areas such as the DS are challenge dungeons and they can scale a lot higher than the surrounding areas, but some of them still have a cap on them… iirc the DS is capped around the 30’s.
Also even though each area has its own min/max level range, I’ve found that any mobs that get spawned by the mobs there will spawn at the appropriate level for your char regardless of the area max level.
For example, if you go to the cultists shack with a level 50 char all the normal mobs are around 14, but the void fiends that are summoned are at the level of your char, 49-51
