Translation:
Since Grim Dawn was updated to version 1.3.1.1, only Grimarillion has been updated to be compatible with the current version of the game. It seems that Grim Dawn modding is dying out: neither GD Reborn, nor Rebirth, nor DeathGrimDawn Custom Game Overhaul—deathxangel21’s legacy continued, nor Warhammer 40,000 Global Conversion have been updated—everything has come to a standstill. Think for yourselves, decide for yourselves.
I do agree that it used to be more active. We still have Grimarillion, Community League and Reign of Terror actively updating, Path of Grim Dawn 2026 might update sooner or later with content and stuff, for now it just had a compatibility update for 1.3+. If I’m not mistaken someone did update GD Reborn for 1.3+, no? And Death Grim Dawn is up to date I guess… But it’s kinda too much for me, it can be fun but feels like there’s too much going on without a purpose.
I’ve been enjoying the new content added by the updates/expansion and also kinda modding for myself (mostly taking specific features from a mod I like and also adjusting stuff here and there).
Totally agree on those mega-compilation mods feeling bloated. That’s why I prefer either the base expansion content or Community League—it feels much more structured and true to Grim Dawn’s core progression.
To be honest only Death Grim Dawn feels too much for me. From the rest I can tell that the dev at least is trying to be something other than a bundle of madness. I’m usually playing the normal game or my own “more grounded” modifications (Community League is also an option here), then from time to time I have some fun with PoGD or RoT (used to also include some DoM).
also basic concept of modders dont’ stick around forever,
The warhammer mod OP mentions was pseudo abandoned years ago, and only updated to 1.2 by someone else (tt300 i think)
It’s very important people keep in mind, popular mod or not, once a mod is put out, the creator does not owe us to stick around and update said mod indefinitely.
People that have large demands of mods don’t understand how time consuming and unrewarding modding is. It’s a second unpaid job but your demographic is autistic gamers with the social skills of a wet paper bag. I used to do 3d modelling for some mods. Fuck modding. Once upon a time I truly enjoyed modelling. Mods killed every creative desire I had and I havn’t opened a cad program in about 6yrs now.
Between gamers having absurd demands, to having your work heavily criticized, to fellow modders having wildly different expectations, goals, and their own personal lives that take priority, modding is simply a waste of our short time on this planet.
I wholeheartedly agree! I have an unreleased map mod ive been working on for a couple of years now (which ive hinted at in various posts), a loot drop mod in concept stages, and an item mod “concept” i just posted yesterday. There is so little encouragement or curiosity that i have no taste for sharing any of my endeavors, which for me are inspired art projects. No one asks, no one cares, and no one is hungering for anything new unless ig they paid for it.
For my part, i would love to try some of the mods that are out there for GD, but i have my own inspirations, and youre right, few modders maintain their own creations. It is thankless and is often a labor of love.
Part of the problem is that the modding tools, with the exception of the map editor, are rudimentary and clunky. Theres no linkage between different tools that handle different aspects of the game. I’m very creative, but if i have to read a reference encyclopedia, i’ll pass on helping add to the content.
One other part of the equation is that, as unsympathetic and bratty that gamers are, the modders that bring them more content are temperamental and sensitive — theyre artists after all! Put the two groups together and you got sourness before the discussion has gotten very far. Add to the mix the unsocial aspects of forum exchanges, and its a volatile mix already.
I hope you cross paths @SchnitzelTruck with someone who appreciates your skills as a modeller. Ive tried my hand at it with UnrealEd, Blender, and a few obsolete applications, but the learning curve is too steep, when i have so many other artistic outlets. So i admire anyone who took the time to learn it and loves doing it.
I’ve seen enough mods that never leave the concept stage to wait until there is an actual release before showing any interest. Until then I just keep tabs on the progress.
Exceptions might be big mods like porting the TQ classes / world, D2, D3, etc. that show progress like a skill tree.
I assume I am not alone in this.
That being said, there will always be people complaining / demanding things and there will always be less praise than the effort deserves. You should / have to mod because you want to and enjoy it, not because others are cheering you on. If that is not enough to motivate you, then it is not really for you.
