MODS or not

I have been playing GD for quite a while, love the game. I have played the base game and all the dlc the whole time. I have started to get interested in MODS for GD. I have used them plenty with other games with pros and cons. My question is are they worth it, enjoyable, add new life or interest… or do they break the game. If some are actually good and make the game better what are they? One more question, with my characters I already have will MODS mess them up or will I lose them. Also can I just go back and forth from playing a modded session of GD and a unmodded session.

Thanks for the advice.

Oh and I don’t just want OP characters and I don’t want things to be easier.

one there is a difference between hard mods & soft mods. Hard mods change your base game & will if you make mistakes screw up your vanilla game. Its always wise to make backups of your files that you change. & even make backup copies of your vanilla chars.
Second soft mods which you select from the custom menu do not screw up your game. & the save files for your chars is separate from your vanilla chars. You cant use vanilla chars in modded games. (unless you cheat with a third party tool)
I personally love mods. There are alot of them & its going to be personal choice on that. & yes it does have mods that make the game harder. The big ones are Grimmilion & Dom mainly they add alot of new classes. Rot is D2. Have fun exploring. You will never get tired of this game with the options out there.
& then there are the tools Im addicted to Grim Internals. I cant play without it. The community for modding is great.

I have seen the mods with new classes and skills, and I have been hesitant on them because I’m worried about balance. In your experience have you found the modded content like classes/skills to have balance issues.

You cannot use vanilla characters in mods like Grimarillion, Dawn of Masteries, Reign of Terror, Nydiamar unless you use something like GDStash to change them over. You’ll need to make new characters for any mods you play; they’ll appear in a new list and you’ll also need to refind everything, rebuy personal/transfer stash tabs, etc. I don’t even know if there are any soft mods for the game that let you use vanilla characters with them.

Depends on what you want balance-wise really. Both Grimarillion and Dawn of Masteries add more classes to play with as well as new items, but you can also set their difficulties so you can either have the difficulty as it is in the vanilla game or ramp up the spawn rates of both mods and heroes if you want to.

Rainbow filter is a big help, doesn’t change the game though, but damn that help a lot.
Thanks tqFan
