I’ve heard that new expansion is coming and I’m so hyped (though I haven’t finished the AoM yet). But hearing a new expansion suddenly makes me think of a game mode suggestion.
Some how Grim Dawn is kind of perfect setting for Monster Hunting mode. Imagine like there are Quests which require players to search for clues of monsters which posing dangers to the NPC communities. For example there is a burned house and we will need to find out what did that. Then after searching for a few clues we find out that there is a fire monster (like a huge fire hound perhaps?) living in the area. When we found out its location, we can come and kill it. The wanted monster can be mini-boss or even unique boss which will drop some sweet gears unique to it.
The concept is somewhat similar to Witcher 3’s monster hunt. It seems to be difficult to implement in Grim Dawn but still I think it would be cool in this game. The setting feels so right for hunting monsters work.
Isn’t that the bounty system pretty much though? You get various faction quests from their bounty tables and go off and kill things or find items. Monsters can range from your general ordinary ones like the skeleton monstrosities to killing a boss like Boris or Grand Priest Zarthuzellan.
Can’t see it being added at this late stage. Not to the main game/AoM anyway. And I doubt they’d include something like that for Forgotten Gods alone. Might be an idea if they decide to make GD2 in a few years’ time though.
It’s pretty close to what you’re suggesting, just doesn’t have the clues really. Although sometimes finding where you need to go can be a challenge.
They’re good for getting your reputation with the various factions higher more quickly than just running through the main campaign. Also some factions have extra quests which only become available once you reach Honored status with them. Each table has about 6-8 bounties, but you can only have one at a time from each table (so one from Rovers, one from Devil’s Crossing, etc) and can’t choose any more until that one is completed and you turn it in. Then you can choose another one. You can skip some if you don’t want to do them. You can cycle through them only once per play session, but they can be repeated too, you just have to exit a play session and they reset.
Your suggestion reminds me of the Mark Hunting sidequest from Final Fantasy XII, which is one of the reasons why I loved that game, so yeah, I’d love to see bounty hunting being made more interesting someday, if possible.
