Kind of a goofy question but how do you pronounce Moosilauke, and how the heck do you guys remember that name?
Every time I try to bring him up I have to do a google search for “Grim Dawn Nemesis”, find him in a guide, and then copy and paste his name to avoid just referring to him as the “Cold Nemesis dude”.
There’s something about that precise name that makes my brain shut down – Moosilauke. I keep wanting to call him miso soup or something.
Is there an abrupt pause in pronunciation from “Moosi” to “lauke”, or does it kind of roll together? And is “Lauke” like “locke” or more like, “lowk” (like “out” sound with a “k” sound at end?) – or something totally different?
Since Arkovia seems to be inspired by Byzantium in a number of ways, I thought it’d be fun to assume Moosilauke is merely an English transliteration of a Byzantine Greek name.
I think it’d be cool if the “oo” were “οω” as in “Laocoön” or “coöperate” (a la The New Yorker). So without further ado here is my very crude attempt at re-creating the “original” Byzantine Greek name:
Μοωσιλαυκε
However I do not think the “αυ” construction really exists in Byzantine Greek, making the transliteration somewhat erroneous. I am also aware of the complete lack of diacritics for an otherwise polytonic language. Maybe someone with more knowledge in Byzantine Greek can enlighten.
