Why is there not only so little love but also so little support for this skill? The only build I could find that uses Mortar Trap is rated for waves 151-170 of Gladiator Crucible. There’s so little gear support that I can’t find a single way to make an alternate version for the main campaign.
There are a bunch of items adding to Mortar Trap in some way, and even an entire set (Dagallon’s Destruction)…
Terrnox has an MI for it
if the build can beat gladiator waves 150 to 170 then it can beat Ultimate AOM also.
Odd thing about Dagallon set. The full set does add to Mortar Trap and the helm gives you an extra to summon (max of 4), you can’t summon the 4th trap unless you drop least one of the Dagallon pieces for Mythical Anderos’ Amplifier which gives -2 second cooldown for Mortar Trap.
From what I’ve seen, most builds that are for waves 150-170 of Gladiator Crucuble trade most of their damage for defense. Purifier build I was looking at can max out at 5.2K DA.
you can if you play Sorc, or spec intro Aeon.
After going through Grimtools more there is more support then I thought, but I can’t figure out how have around 3.5K DA and 11K or more HP while keeping the damage up. If you abuse Terrnox Arcane Tome with Mythical Anderos’ Amplifier you can summon 5 Mortar Traps on a 1 second cooldown. https://www.grimtools.com/calc/nZorEOdV is about the best my very limited knowledge can do but I don’t think it can facetank main campaign to maximize Mortar Trap damage.
Why are you trying to get 3.5k DA? Pretty much no part of the main campaign needs DA that high.
No conduit of destructive whispers?
The big one is pretty awful and I would use the points elsewhere.
Aura of censure might cause you some massive issues.
No stun resistance is always a very bad thing.
Why those particular rings?
No idea where you are getting your info from but Mortar Trap has been able to farm end game since vanilla days.
I’d even recommend my own elementalist guide but I removed the GT link since the build will be getting an update soon
For Mortar Trap you can go with-
- Purifier
- Elementalist (Supported by Totem/Wind Devils)
- Sorcerer (Devastation)
- Pyromancer (Chaos conversion using Blood Orb and Doom Bolt nuke) - Evil_Baka has aguide on this (EDIT: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/aZqGOL92, Ideal BoM is +5 Mortar Trap)
Before I made the immortal mortar build, I was using an elementalist mortar trap build for farming/testing. For main campaign or maybe even 150 cruicible, you don’t need a shield.
Can do something similar to this
https://www.grimtools.com/calc/r2BkQ8jV
DPS is very high, just takes a 1-2 seconds to ramp up damage while mortars/totems get placed. But killing bosses is very fast.
That’s similar to what I am testing but your current setup in some situations can run into energy problems but the 4 things (amulet, weapon, off hand and helm) are perfect
Your DA fetish is kinda baffling tbh
Your chest, shoulders, rings, pants, and medal are all bad choices fyi. You can get similar if not better offensive oomph while having 17khp and your target da simply enough. One thing you need to realize is “the big one” is a 1 pointer skill, don’t invest more and definitly don’t go out of your way to try and overcap it as youve done.
Can you please send me a grimtools of what would be better choices for chest, shoulders, ring, pants, and medal to get same DA, but more offesnive/hp? I’ve been trying to figure out how to do that and couldn’t really find anything, but if you know of, please share. Thanks!
Lol yeah i must admit, I do love to have high DA in all my builds. But especially with mortar traps I think it is important because of the lag mortar traps have in hitting its target. If you cant tank and have to move, a lot of your mortars wont hit anymore which is a huge dps loss. That’s why I feel that trying to be as stationary as you can with a mortar trap build gives you the highest dps.
Also, regarding “the big one”, my opinion is that the damage from it is pretty good, and large aoe is great, especially if your enemies are moving, but the biggest drawback is it only shoots once per mortar trap life/cast. Maybe this is what is putting everyone off. But to me, it doesn’t matter that much because I am constantly casting new mortars traps with reduced cooldown. Each mortar I cast probably only last for a few seconds/shots anyways. So I’m hoping that by constantly recasting mortars, I maximize the amount of “the big one” shots and mitigate the big drawback. I suppose I could do more testing to see if the big one is worth the points, but i feel like from using it in my builds, it does do good damage if you use it like I mentioned above.
Also, played around with grimtools a bit more and you could actually do something more like this to get maxed storm totems. Can also replace gloves with cindertouch or some rare gloves with resonant xx of insight if you have mana problems. Prefix can really be anything.

Eh, never really liked Shaman mastery that much. Only used it in the past since it was the only other mastery besides Occultist to make a pet build. Think I’ll just stick with the Crucible Purifier til someone comes up with campaign version. I just really like the Inquisitor mastery.
https://www.grimtools.com/calc/RZRRKRBZ seems to be the best I can get since I prefer Purifier. Currently testing Gladiator Crucible and made it to wave 50.
After some more testing it’s definitely not rated for Gladiator Crucible, mostly cause of the lower HP and me being tooo lazy to use healing pots. Ended up dying on wave 100 so I’m guessing I’d have a pretty easy time with the main campaign and possibly a party in Crucible.
