Mostly new, what builds can I reasonably gear up for?

I’ve started playing the game a while ago and I have multiple characters at various levels up to 53. I can’t decide which one to take up to max level though, as I don’t want get there only to not be able to get gear for them. I’ve been building my characters towards builds I find here:

(can’t post links, but these are the threads)

Can anyone tell me which ones are reasonable for a new player to gear up for (at least until I can use it to farm the rest) and which ones aren’t? I’m leaning towards going for a blademaster but not if it’s too hard to get gear for. I’m also interested in any other builds that are appropriate for a new player

  1. No idea how to use those

  2. Thing about GD is: if you’re resolved to play strictly self-found expect 500+ hours itg before you can gear one char up for endgame. Regardless of the build. There are beginner builds using faction gear which do well in main game (afaik death knight is one of the best) but they’re far below endgame performance and can’t handle crucible. Either join the trading community or prepare for endless roguelike grinds.

There

Btw, to get your post count high enough for links and stuff, you can post in this thread: http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48496

Now to answer your question, I would probably pick this one instead if you don’t mind playing a Death Knight:

I really like my blademaster character, but I don’t mind playing a death knight. How is the faction setup on this build?

Is this also viable as a starting point to farm other builds?

You have posted a link to this

build, which I find cute, because I am currently also leveling a blademaster and find this build very inspiring.

In my very personal opinion, you should definitely play the character that brings you the most fun, which appears to be your blademaster.
The most important item for that combo is the weapon, and Dermapteran Slicers can be farmed easily, so that is a huge plus. Faction gear is also really good, pretty much everything is farmable/obtainable until of course you´ll want to use the lvl 94 set, that you´ll probably have to trade for.

There may be other builds that are easier to gear for, but who cares, Blademaster is fun, you like it, go for it! :stuck_out_tongue:

You might have to grind a bit for faction rep and invest time farming suitable Derp Slicers, but that´s part of the game.

Just my 5 cents.

The items should be easy enough to acquire since they are faction gears. So definitely viable to go for as a starting point.

And nothing wrong with Blademasters, so if you like them definitely stick with it.

Death Knights are just widely considered by the community to be one of the most beginner friendly classes due to how even the endgame gear is relatively easy to acquire. But it is better to play what you like the most as you will be spending quite alot of time with your first character, not just grinding but also learning the ropes and many secrets of the game world.

Oh and before I forget, welcome to the gorgeous world of Grim Dawn

Thanks for the welcome! I get that it’s easy to acquire the gear, but is it powerful enough to start farming with?

My experience with Nightblades is a bit limited, but it should be powerful enough unless you want to farm the Crucible or Nemesis monsters.

Now, you might want to ignore what I am about to write here. But I just want to present it to you as an option just incase.
Leveling your first character(s) is a unique experience of its own and I don’t want to ruin it for you.
But, should you ever feel the need to “test” out a build or later experiment with crazy new ideas or whatever, there is this tool called GD-Stash.

But path to the dark side, that is. Tread carefully, you must.

That is the Fluff’s classic. Pinnacle of dw piece bm and nothin’ cute about it ;). Even though it’s been proved to be the fastest possible I wouldn’t recommend this specific setup for beginners as it takes some skill and knowledge of the game to pilot right. Here’s is my latest tweak, less powerful but somewhat safer, for reference: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/lNkxqnd2.

R E S I S T !!!

Seriously, do not use tools to cheat items or characters. That´ll most likely kill the game for you. That kind of testing is rather for players with thousands of hours played, who want to test stuff without leveling yet another character to 100.

Hm fair enough.
Still don´t see nothing wrong with leveling as BM as first character. It´s gonna hurt no matter what. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hum, me and a buddy did crucible 170 today with two builds DK.
as they are tanky they can facetank and dish out enough dmg, add a banner for dmg and your more than fine.

True, farming crucible in mp is one of the ways to get around that 500+ hours I mentioned as you can loot up even with subpar non-endgame toons. However, I wouldn’t call that a strict and true self-found…
