I am playing Grim Dawn again, this time taking a friend with me. We just got to the point where you choose which faction you and Death’s Legion will work with for the remainder of the difficulty (in Elite). In Veteran we went with Kymon’s Chosen. Now we want to do Death’s Vigil to see how it changes the game. I talked to the cultists and signed up with Death’s Vigil. My partner claims she never spoke with either of the faction representatives and that she is not able to do so now, in fact Kymon’s Chosen had already set up shop in Homestead while I still needed to run to Sorrow’s Bastion to report in. I made a new game and she tried following me there but had to fight the guards and was not able to enter their fortress with me.
How can I fix this problem so she is also on Death’s Vigil’s side. We need this in order to keep playing together. I don’t mind using a Trainer program to do this! Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me!
Has your friend tried starting a single player game on their own or hosting a multiplayer game and talking to either of the representatives if they’re still in Homestead?
Hello. ^^ That was me. So a bit more details… I never spoke with representatives, after DrThoss made choice, i tryed made my choice, too. Cultist was meanie to me, paladin reacted as we already talked and i chose them. Then we restarted game with my host. They both gone from Homestead, so i can’t talk with them at all. Same in singleplayer game. Kymon’s Chosen already set up shop in Homestead before i met them in their main base.
Yes, as @LazyPotato said we tried single and multiplayer games with no luck at all. We found some Reddit threads that said using GDStash to fix this will bork our game, althought the most recent one was at least a year old. I am really hoping something has changed since then, or that some other tool or mod can help us out here!
If not I would suggest to the devs that they insert a line of text when making this choice for the first time to the effect that you can choose only once in multiplayer, since it looks like one player will always be screwed if you try changing factions between difficulties!
EDIT: Just a thought: if I had waited for my friend to talk with Ulrich and the Inquisitor on the balcony before I made my decision, would she have had an opportunity to make a choice here as well?
I’m not experienced on GD Stash so wouldn’t know. You could try asking in the forum thread in the Utilities and Resources section of the forum if you want to try. The creator is still pretty active around here.
If you’re not savvy on using external editors or it turns out to not be possible, you could consider PM’ing @Zantai as a last resort and asking him to have a look at @LazyPotato’s character. I believe it’ll involve zipping up the character folder and emailing it to their support address, then receiving it back when they’ve made the change.
Is either of your two classes an inquisitor? In that case you will not be able to side with Death’s Vigil. Likewise a necromancer can never align with Kymon’s Chosen.
I wouldn’t necessarily say these questlines are bugged in multiplayer, but they certainly function differently from normal quests, i.e. all players have to complete each quest separately, though that can be done in same game. For instance, normally once once player completes the turn in of C’thonic Seals, the quest would complete for all players, but for these faction quests each player has to turn in three seals themselves.
Inquisitors can side with Death’s Vigil easily, you just need to be calm in face of their hostility. Kymon’s Chosen will not allow necromancers to join, but if you have a single mastery, choose them and then pick necromancy, it can be done.
The problem for the OP is probably thus:
- He completed the previous quest and his friend didn’t, then took the choosing of sides quest
- He completed the choosing of sides quest before his friend had gotten it in their quest list
- Because the quest was completed in MP, it is counted as fulfilled for all characters in the game, regardless of whether they actually had it.
I had a similar issue with the Coven wards quest, all players have to get that quest separately and I didn’t take it and we cleared one of the wards. Then noticed my error and went and got the quest and now forevermore my summoner cabalist has that quest completed but one of the three wards still looks red as if it was never restored.
At a guess, I’d say that this particular character of LazyPotato’s is permanently screwed on Elite difficulty. Retry on Ultimate.
One of the most important things in playing multi is making sure all of your quests are always completely in sync or weird things like this can happen. Some quests are personal, some are automatic for both. Until you learn which is which, never assume.
Thanks everyone for your replies! We are a Battlemage and an Elementalist; no Inquisitor or Necromancer in the mix at all.
I will try posting this in the other forum next!
Whoever suggested you create a thread in utilities and resources was misinformed.
Without having been there at the moment, I can’t say what had occurred or if there even is an issue. LazyPotato can send the character to our support and I can switch their faction state on Elite.
There isn’t a tool currently that can do it, at least not without screwing up other things.
Thank you so much Zantai! You and your company continue to astound me with your dedication to this wonderful game you have created and it’s community. Unfortunately LazyPotato’s country is currently in turmoil with the internet all but gone in response to protests but she was able to forward her save file to me just now. I sent it to support per your instructions.
This sort of thing is the reason I bought copies of this game on both Steam and GOG and for anyone I think will play it with me!
