My Best in Game Builds

Let’s try this again, this time without premature posting :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

The rest of this character’s gear is fairly average rolled as well, except for some reason she has a very nice Mythical Mindwarp.

It wouldn’t change the list much for sure. It would reduce the gap between what is shown and what average Joe is going to get from the build though. The rolls on the #1 trickster (and several others) are complete bullshit. Every important stat on every item is maxed out. People complain about (semi-)fantasy green items in the builds in this thread, but then they’re OK with showcasing builds with even more fantasy entire gear sets.

There’s no solution here though. There has to be some sort of standard to test around and it seems people have picked “as high as you can get it before you get bored of checking items” as the standard.

Nah, people don’t get to claim it’s fine to GDStash items because “anyone who has been playing for ages will have them” and in the same thread give someone shit for using triple rares that have biases for the affixes on them. If you’ve been playing long enough, you’d have them is, I believe, the line.

EDIT: Also, stop making me defend this thread lmao.

@Gnomish_Inquisition laid it out very well. It doesn’t really matter if you GDStash 1000 items to max rolls… just make a build in GT, use the GD save game editor to make a character (sometimes a couple times if you get borked on stat rolls) and try them out. It’s that easy and there is almost no difference in character strength unless you get borked on conversions or some important stat rolls.

As someone who has been playing for ages (1200h), I don’t have them. I do have a bunch of stuff, but what I do and don’t have is pretty random. Some (legendary) items I don’t even have at all, most are <5 and yes some are 10+, but only a handful. And I definitely don’t have the resources to craft multiple items to get good stats and/or crafting bonus.

It all depends on what you’ve been doing with all that time playing. If all you do is SR then you probably have more items than you’d like, but if you just go through the campaign, not so much (especially when half the characters are <70).

It’s probably more reasonable to assume random joe will have 1 or 2 items, assuming they use some stash tool (or :horse:).

I think this discussion is off-topic and deserves to be split into seperate topic.

That said, top20 is a list of top performing builds, not top budget builds or top builds that would work the best with poorly/averagely rolled gear. As long as I remember (and I played D2 on battle.net first like in 2002 or something like that), top builds required Enigma, life skillers, hitting certain attack speed and other breakpoints which meant getting best possible versions of your gear.

We tried to make builds have realistic items in terms of affixes and even promoted more affordable builds with our ranking system. But to compare them between each other we need them to be on the same playing field in terms of their gear. Because if you just spawn those builds thru GD save file editor chances are some will spawn with horrific rolls some will spawn with average some will spawn with unfairly good ones. So that won’t work. And if you are trying to look specifically for “average” rolls than you have to work out a whole bunch of criteria, like what stats are rolling averagely, all of them? Just damage? Conversions too? Now imagine the amount of additional work we should’ve put into to work out those “average rolls” criterias and then look for exactly median rolls on every spec.

Don’t forget, whole project was made for free, it lasted months and it took a lot of time and effort from several GD veterans. High rolling items made sense because it’s what people always do in legit play when they are building top performing specs in arpgs and it also made sense time consumption wise because creating more deliberate critera means stalling project for even longer and possibly losing testers/participants or publishing it too late (too close to FoA release).

I hope that explains it.

I’m still trying to wrap my head around the idea that he said he has nearly 5,500 hrs in game and never seen a Gollus ring.

I love it. Every time a troll makes up something new and gets a like the total like count goes up. Thanks!

This you?

Sorry, topic should likely to split but couldn’t help but say something about this.

In terms of “having stuff after x hours.”

Not the case, even after 5k hours with some items I would like to roll are 1/72k. Not to mention the disagreement I have on Crate’s stance regarding Badge of Mastery.

Having said that there is a possibility that FoA changes this but, until we have solid information…:man_shrugging: Too many questions on the alter and ascension mode drops.

Edit: for context I have personally just arrived at the point where I don’t want to keep smashing out characters but want to actually BiS one for once.

In terms of the thread: perhaps MI’s should be left on builds with no affixes with the poster providing BiS affixes, affixes which would be a “settle”, and/or a list of stats in a priority format.

Yep the Crate forum algorithm improves every time someone likes and comments…

You making money from this or smth?? :joy::joy:

Badge of Mastery is quite out of date and should be changed somehow to become useful…

That is impossible with the game still receiving updates…

True to an extent. Patches don’t come exceeding fast and there is the possibility certain items/builds are not touched by a patch.

And then, if it does, I don’t mind farming a replacement to regain what I would determine as BiS. I just hit the point where I don’t want to level anything even though I can easily think of a dozen builds I want to make - leveling fatigue.

Edit: Badge’s current iteration is useful from my point of view/build style. As for updates for/to it, myself and those I played with in the past have given options for change…but oh wells…we will just have to see what FoA has in store.

In a millisecond before I hit delete  3.5k views and they added about 20 likes to the 169. We can let the ratio respond from now on.

Bruh, those like ratio are against you

Bruh, 3.5k views. Now that is the last feeding of the trolls for real this time

I don’t think it means what you think it means. lol

i think you either might be mixing it up with something else, or just aren’t familiar with the discourse forum system?
it’s not like YT/tiktok/reddit?(legit no clue about reddit’s system/don’t use reddit)
your thread count is getting a “view” anytime anyone goes clicking to read a or the new posted comment or to respond to it, not the OP/thread itself, or if the same viewer re-views the comment or any part of the thread (it’s not an unique visitor or OP counter - i alone have probably caused a couple hundred “views” jumping up and down quoting and responding to comments )
Just like the total thread like count doesn’t reflect the OP/thread itself, nor are “yours”
and neither is boosting any “algorithm”/bonus/benefit
or rather, you’re not directly the one getting the views or the likes, but you/your thread are also not directly gaining from either (- if that’s what you think?)

while there is nothing not granting you permission to do so, it makes you appear extremely pretentious when both acting like it and when deflecting comments pointing it out - and ofc just the general presumptuousness of any critique/disagreeing pov = troll.
It’s both unreasonably dismissive, and probably just also slightly rude.

I will respond to you because you add content to the discussion.

No one is highly motivated to attack an unimportant thread.

again, you’re either trying to be presumptious, or misunderstandg
1, your thread is no more no less important than any other, it has no more or less value or worth than another’s
2, it’s not being “attacked”, let alone “attacked because it’s important”

*i don’t engage on many forums so i don’t know what the “common” online forum thread/community interaction is or what’s the norm on other forums.

But, even if we ignore the initial title (as others explained will immediate draw “scrutiny” at best), on GD forum you have couple of segments of players/users that either tend to point out perceived flaws in a build, just in terms of optimization/improvement/mechanic, and some that generally like to “correct” mistakes/misinformation so ex it doesnt’ proliferate and spread, or people that just like to “discuss”(/lack of better word since “argue” feels a wee over the top )
You might perceive either of these 3 types of engagements as “attacks” on you, but they are not inherently so, and neither is attributing any status of importance high/low to you/your thread either. It’s a fairly regular type of interaction, with the added initial attention from OG boasting tittle :smile:/this is “expected” GD forum behavior

there is a 178 posts, 37 are from me, 64 is from you, that’s 77 from 29 other users or barely 2½ posts per forum member active in the thread - hardly special let alone considering the initial title or even the uniqueness of the content
(and i’d almost expect that regular member interaction to go lower with the change in title, but also the length we’re made it drag on)

The interaction benefit you will/should see (speculation estimate) is that you might be active/an active OP and “revive” the thread with new builds (and i would even encourage you to do so despite build criticism and disagreements, personal or otherwise).
Since threads that do that/build topics that stays alive by being updated once in a while tend to get a slight more casual re-interaction as it floats ontop the forum waters/front display again.
And that might then again not be any direct reflection of you/your builds/the thread; but just the normal interaction of being active/on the homepage display. So if another/further criticism/disagreement then occurs it’s just regular interaction, not because your thread is more/less important, but simply got spotted floating on top.
if that make sense?

Where? Was there something I missed?

Please shorten posts. Absolutely no offense intended, but I haven’t read a wall of text on a forum in 40 years.
