I play games a lot and about 2 weeks ago I was clicking more than I should have been and ever since my fingers (mainly my little finger) aches when using the pc.
I know this is not the best place to ask, but I wanted advice from some fellow gamers since for some reason I have been ignored other places, and my physiotherapist just told me to not use the pc…
I had a break for well over a week and I thought my hand started to get better but then one day back on the pc and it started up again. Any advice on what I could do without having to sully stop using the pc please ? As I think I would go insane.
Could it be the size of your mouse? I was having horrible pains (specifically in my ring and pinky finger) after gaming sessions with my old mouse because it was too small. After upgrading to something bigger and more comfortable i have not had any pains at all.
Not so sure on the steam controller. Can’t go wrong with 360, but Steam controller imo is not that great for gaming. It takes a while to get used to and still doesn’t match up to a 360 controller.
For pure gaming… I always go with the Xbox controller. For games not meant for controller that you would still like to use a controller with, the Steam controller.
The Steam controller for GD specifically actually, at this moment, edges the Xbox controller out as manipulating the mouse in UI mode is drastically nicer to use as well as offers a couple extra buttons.
It also is very nice for general Windows browsing and manipulation if you aren’t in the mood to use the mouse and keyboard for whatever reason. You can use Xpadder to get similar functionality on an Xbox controller as well but the Steam controller again trumps with ease of use in this area.
Take a look at how you rest your arm when you play. The little finger aches could be due to compression of the Ulnar nerve(the funny bone). Many years ago my little finger went numb and then had aches in my arm. It was due to compression of the ulnar nerve. I had to have surgery to correct the problem. Just something to consider.
I’m a software developer so I work with a computer and when I’m home I play games, so computer again. Years ago I started to suffer pain in my index finger when left clicked, so I changed my heavy Microsoft Sidewinder X3 mouse for a Logitec m105, who is small, lightweight and buttons are softer than my previous mouse. Also I started to click with my middle finger and ring finger on work and when I play games like GD I use my index finger and my middle finger again but main attack is on right click so I click with my middle finger more often than my index finger. My index finger doesn’t pain any more but I keep this rutine.
Get something like a Logitech G13 and macro as much as possible.
Some examples:
Having a key toggle for LMB down means you can relax your mouse hand and creates less strain, and not just on your clicking fingers.
Set-up toggles for Shift + Key so you don’t have to hold multiple buttons down for ranged fire, or any buttons for that matter…again, it’s a toggle.
Set-up macros for mashing a button 2 or 3 times so you only have to press it once.
Macro frequent skills with similar cooldowns to one key.
So much more relaxing playing this way
As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I wouldn’t be playing much at all these days without a macro-able key pad, my hands can’t take it  Plus I do enough mouse clicking all day at work
If you have tendonitis, the sad truth is that you really have to stop playing games for a long period to let your body heal, it’s a bitch of a problem.
Not sure if you doctor told you this but there are hand exercises that you should do for the health of your hands. One of these exercises is simply opening and closing your hands over and over. When you open them, open them as wide as possible. Doing this 100 times relatively fast will really burn your forearms, but it is good for your hands and also a good forearm exercise.
Thanks, I will give it a try. I thought that’s what it could have been but my doctor was useless and just sent me to physiotherapy, and then he was useless. He didn’t say what it was or could be, didn’t offer any advice other than “don’t use the pc”.
Give it more time at least three weeks without clicking. I had similar problem but with only one finger and some wrist issue. Be careful, do not uderestimate this ! It will be ok, but rest is a must !
EDIT: I didnt went to physiotherapist I get rid of it by myself. Just rest. You also need some wrist excercise, it is easy and it will help you a lot.
