My game keeps running out of ram, why?

I dont know why this is happening, used to work fine before. i have 8gb of ram, now after about 1h of gameplay the game gives me a windows popup that im running low on memory, if i keep playing it crashes sometime after, so i have to exit and restart.

Dunno but it’s the first time (out of many years) that I think I’ve ever seen anyone come here with that one. I have 8GB RAM and have never had that happen.

I suppose for starters I’d take a read of Google and maybe try some stuff first…

Are you sure it is Grim Dawn eating your memory? Have you verified what processes are using memory with Task Manager?

pretty sure as it names the process on the popup window.

I think he means to actually monitor your running processes in Task Manager and see what else you have going on that is also utilizing memory in conjunction. We have no idea if you got tons of stuff installed and running in the background, a web browser perhaps with tons of tabs open etc.

For instance I have ALOT of stuff running on my 8GB of RAM system currently with 2 different web browsers open with lots of tabs between them AND I often have Grim Dawn running for untold numbers of hours sometimes (tabbing in and out frequently at times) and I’ve never had the issue.

This is going to be a problem which you are, unfortunately, going to have to do some sleuthing on your own to pinpoint why this is occurring.

You can try Verify Integrity of Game Files

I am sure that there is nothing wrong about Grim Dawn; because my potato pc runs this game.

Yea, that is exactly what I was saying. If you open Task Manager and click on Memory to sort by highest usage to lowest, you will see what processes are using the most memory on your system.

Here is an example from my machine that is running only Grim Dawn (with a few other browser and lookup tools)

As you can see, Grim Dawn is using around 2.5GB of memory. This is hardly enough to cause you problems in an 8GB system. Have a look in Task Manager when you encounter the problem. You may be surprised to find a rogue app or process that is eating your memory.

I have been playing Grim Dawn for many years now and have never encountered any Memory-Leak issues in their code. That being said though, there are many ill-behaved apps out there that do have serious Memory-Leak issues and if run for an extended time period, like in a Service, will eventually exhaust your system memory and will require a reboot.

generally i only have GD, deluge and Brave with a handful of tabs open. My gd is about 3.5gb in memory usage when this happens. Nothing else on the task manager gets even to 1gb other than gd. Maybe its because im running Grim Internals? Using just Grim Dawn this never happened.

What version of Grim Dawn are you running?

GD can grab 3GB+ in some situations. But that’s still normal, IMO. I’ve seen games gobble up 8-10GB. The question is how much RAM do you have? Nowadays, it’s almost a crime to have less than 16 in a gaming laptop/desktop.

Should not be a crime and is above the recommended memory capacity.

I assume you have switched to the 64 bit version of Grim Internals. You might want to ask for help in [Tool] Grim Internals.

yup, im running griminternals64 right now.
