My name is Wade and I’m a gameaholic. To fund my gaming I spend my days in the office working as a software developer.
I’ve had programming as my hobby since the late 80’s when my father insisted I needed to write a game on Commodore 64 if I wanted him to buy me a PC. In addition to computer related stuff my hobbies include aikido and hiking.
I started using the name Wade when I needed a nick to use in Wolfenstein Enemy Territory. As I was trained as a medic in the military and mostly played as one in the game, I decided to use the name of the medic in Saving Private Ryan who died early in the movie.
I’ve bought - and to some extent played - pretty much all games that seem interesting ever since I got a steady income. After the Steam came around the percentage of the games I’ve actually tried after buying has naturally plummeted. I’ve only known of Kickstarter for less than two months, but it’s already proven to be another good place to throw my money at.
Some of my favourite games from the top of my head include: UFO - Enemy Unknown, the Civilization series, Jagged Alliance 1&2, Silent Storm, Fallout 1&2, Battlefield 2 … and naturally Diablo 1&2 + Titan Quest.
As for Diablo 3, I had it pre-ordered but I didn’t get it delivered until a day after the launch. After reading about the way Blizzard had implemented the DRM, I decided to return the game unopened and give the refund (that I’ll supposedly get eventually) to a friend to use towards his pledge on Grim Dawn as a protest of sorts.
I wasn’t aware of Grim Dawn before stumbling on it on Kickstarter, but I wanted to back the project as soon as I learned of its Titan Quest connection. I’m very impressed of the work done so far and I’m eagerly waiting for the opportunity to be part of the alpha testing phase. I’m actually even more excited of the alpha access than of the upcoming release of the remake of my all time favourite game (UFO - Enemy Unknown).
I’ve been reading the forums ever since I came across Grim Dawn on Kickstarter and the community seems like a friendly bunch. Most of all, I love how the developers interact with the community.
Even though I’ll hate myself when I have to wake early in the morning after this, I need to raise a beer to Arthur and Grim Dawn… Cheers!
