My tips and tricks

Hi there everyone, I have about 350 hours in this game and I want to share a few things I’ve learned so far that I hope will help you out.

I will try to write the things I do remember however feel free to remind me of things I forget about, I’m in no means an expert of this game, just enjoy playing it and I hope it will get better.

A few complaints I have:

  1. I ( and probably all of you ) have with 0.9.1a which is the lack of jobs getting done eg:

Those are not all recent deaths, with 0.9.1a I find that jobs aren’t getting done. My personal opinion is they aren’t getting done because of the recent change where we can set storage limits. I however love the idea of storage limits so I have tried disabling them to see if my worker efficency is getting better and I have not seen a significant change with or without.
  2. My FPS are absolutely struggling as you can see in my screenshots and at least for me changing any sort of graphics settings nets me no extra FPS. ( I’m running an overclocked 5950x and 2080TI both watercooled ).
  3. I absolutely detest the fact the Trading Center can only have a maximum of 2 workers. I will note that some of you might point out that if you keep your storages close to it they should move stuff relatively quickly which is absolutely true, however the bigger your town + the combination of jobs not getting done becomes a problem later in the game.

Anyway getting on with the program, tips and tricks.

Keep 6+ months of food, Tears of the Mother in your temple and your healers fully staffed and your population will increase. I would also try to limit the number of preventable deaths ( eg animals ) by putting towers up in problem spots.

Don’t bother with pubs, as of now they pretty much cause more problems than they’re worth it. You don’t need them. However do make beer and do sell beer, it’s easy to make, easy to sell. ( subject to possible change )

Integrate apiaries in your housing for honey which is easy to sell as is or use for your beer production.

Build max size fields. Fields can be a max of 288/289 tiles, and pretty much any shape you want them. Personally, I do 17x17 because it fits my layouts nicely. But someone could do 16x18 as well, which equates to the same. Additionally, fields (generally) don’t need all of the workers that get auto assigned to them (unless they are massively spread out, far away, or your work efficiency is low). One way to free up a lot of labor is to reduce how many workers per field. I typically need 8-10 per max field, but this will vary a bit for everyone based on the previously mentioned factors. - ladyselua

They can be extended by clicking on a field and pressing the button underneath the Crop selection button on the left hand side.

Because of work not getting done at the moment I found a bit of a workaround for buildings not getting built reasonably fast which becomes a big problem after around 200 - 300 pop. It’s not always possible to do it but when you can, avoid placing a building you want built quickly on top of stuff that needs to be cleared.

In this picture, the house on the left gets built virtually instantly whereas the one on the right will take years to get built. So if you want something built and you have the choice of where to build it, avoid the area that needs clearing.
As a side note if I see lots of things not getting done ( people not getting buried, buildings sites not cleared ) I will stop all miners and workers making goods for a year or so till they catch up, which brings me to my next tip.

In the Professions menu +/- get you one extra worker, Shift and +/- gets you 10 and CTRL +/- gets you 100.

Things I found easy to sell and make money are: herbs, candles, honey, beer, glass (makes a lot of money ) and cheese.
Honorable mentions, wood and wood planks however they take quite a while to get moved to the Trading Center so make sure you move those before you need them ( perhaps early winter start moving them ).

You can place more than one mine on a deposit if you need a resource fast go crazy.

That includes deep core mines as well.

I know it’s not much but I hope they will help at least some of you get more out of the game.
Please share any tips you have.

All good tips. I would amend the “Build 12x24 farms” though, to simply build max size fields. Fields can be a max of 288/289 tiles, and pretty much any shape you want them. Very good tip, I’ve amended my post to include yours instead of mine.
I’m not going to lie, my mind was blown because in my infinite wisdom I never actually realised you can build fields larger than 12. You know, while building a 12x24. Keyword 24.

Its a learning curve for everyone. Not everyone notices all the options right away, and some people think they need to build the max size right away or they think they have to find the greenest spot to plant on. Which aren’t expressly true.

I would add that you can have several “deep mines” in the radius of an infinite coal spot.

I’ve edited my post to include deep core mines, I kinda treated them as regular mines more or less.

i have iron in storage but can’t access for use or selling

You need a foundry and blacksmith to be able to process iron ore into iron ingots. You should be able to move some of it to the trading post if you want to sell it.
