I have just yesterday made a non set chaos AAR Warlock that looks nice on paper and then I saw this elemental to aether conversion in the patchnotes…
Build looks promising for SR. I want to try it today but my guess is SR 38/39 level. It has high damage, big RR, defense is good. And this change to Codex of Lies ruins the conversions… To be precise it ruins my global Fire to Chaos conversion.
And quite frankly I don’t think that it brings anything useful to aether AAR Warlock… And I at least made a build where Codex of Lies can be used…
you can literally use multiple different offhands for chaos aar warlock, but aether AAR warlock needs this one because of the aether RR occultist lacks… - and Occultist got baked in chaos RR this ptr too
it can be a chaos item even if not used for chaos AAR specifically, that’s how a bunch of items work, there’s nothing wrong with that
*i’ve no idea what the +1 necro is for, but maybe it gets some cool chaos mods for that to make it make sense there
warlock needs the aether RR, and it needs conversion back “somewhere” that it lost from clairvoyant changes
I’m not saying that conversion is mandatory “on this slot”, but neck and gloves is out of the question too, leaving just a potential medal slot to carry modifiers, and it has to be somewhere, so unless you’re making a new AAR medal, offhand seems like the only available one
also realizing it’s still a nerf to warlock compared to before clair changes, because 50% lightning +50% fire is still less than the 100% fire was as disintegration is less flat (aside from utilizing vit more than the remaining ele dmg leftover)
So overall buff to binder this patch, but down on warlock, that was performing below binder already
If you want to use Codex of Lies for chaos AAR, you can pair it with Blade of the Black Flame to make the conversion irrelevant. Otherwise, other combinations exists for chaos AAR.
