Any suggestions for building a Necromancer who uses Raise Skeleton and Bone Harvest? So would be a melee/pet hybrid. What class would go well with Necromancer(meleeBH/petRS)? I was thinking Shaman or Occult.
So far I’m a pure Necromancer in Normal around Homestead.
I had tried to make a Bone Harvest / Reap Spirit melee / pet hybrid work (Raise Skeletons is far too many skillpoints to be able to use another attacking skill with it) using the Mythical Corruptor’s set that gives bonuses to pet skills and Bone Harvest, but it fell apart when I tested it against vanilla Nemeses.
This is your best bet in making a Raise Skeletons build that will succeed in all difficulties. It may be a regular summoner, but Bone Harvest plays an important role in that it provides the flat Resistance Reduction from the weapon.
I like pet builds but I ran into the same deal when I tried adding another skill. I did a ravenous earth build with blight fiend and skeletons, but I sort of ran out of gas in the mid 40s.
It’s ok if I just learn about the game. I’ve played quite a bit with various characters (now 12 characters from levels 40-75) with one making to Ultimate. I played Titan Quest long ago through the whole game to Legendary and long ago played Diablo 1 even and Diablo 2 through to ‘nightmare’. And of course I had a level 177 HC Shadow Warrior in Sacred 2!!
I kind of favor mucking around with my own ideas and observations rather than just read about someone’s build and play a copy or variant. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to learn anything about making a good build design. But I’m not going to be bitter if I can’t beat certain bosses or Nemesis or crucible waves.
I think of one thing looking at these builds is that maybe because I’ve never played (relatively many) characters to high level in my head I think I’m going to have more skill points than I will get in reality. Titan Quest it was possible to get a lot higher amounts of + all skills. I think some of my builds I had it up to +10 all skills so when you get to that point (in TQ) you have actually run out of good places to put skills (since +4 above hard max is soft max) in some of the mastery combos. This is even before grinding the bitter 65 to 75 levels that hardly anyone ever did. In Grim Dawn there is both a lot less + all skills and also a lot more skills that you would wish to have if you could have ‘it all’.
If you want to (try) and hybrid skeletons and bone harvest (as a direct attack, not a buff/devotion trigger) I’d recommend shaman as 2ndary for devouring swarm’s vit rr.
Although be warned hybrids don’t work (outside of maybe the diviners set) so you’ll run out of steam around late elite early ult - or find yourself so lopsided in damage that the hybrid designation is meaningless… usually with pets that fight just fine w/o your damage - even if they need your attacks for the buffs/debuffs
