Need a little help with Van Aldritch

So, I’m playing essentially Drizzto’s Cold Blademaster -> http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53141

My stats are actually very close to his in the screenshots, though my chaos resist sits at a pathetic 23%.

I can facetank Fabius and pretty much anything short of Mad queen. I run through Valadaran like he’s a sad joke and can bath in Log’s vomit.

But when I entered Van Aldritch’s arena in PV it takes between 2-3 seconds and I’m dead. With over 20% AdctH and overguard I have to be really sloppy to die anywhere else. What kind of damage are these three dealing? I expect aether and I have seen poison.

It’s somewhat frustrating because I have no idea what’s wrong. Two times now, the fight ended in aforementioned amount of time. It’s not even long enough to really screw up, I guess  Is there heavy chaos dmg involved? That’s my only true weakness I’m aware of.

Any hints/help would be appreciated.

He deals lots of Aether damage, and some elemental damage I think.

The real problem with him is his 2 lackeys as well

The pool of acid/poison deals ridiculous amounts of damage even with over-capped resists. I need to do more testing on this but my health drops in massive chunks from this attack alone.

Could be some %health damage in there too. That thing also makes you Fumble pretty hard so it’s a pain for melee builds. Best thing is to not stand in it

Also, do not try to facetank them, it’s pretty risky. They can put high DOTs on you and reduce your resistances.

it’s crazy how these three suckers can at any time turn the tide in their favor… for melee toons I’d be extra careful with them… especially that pool of acid… even with max resists, it’s still a pain:rolleyes:

Thanks everyone, that explains my failing so far and also why I didn’t run into that much trouble with my arms-flailing-while-screaming-and-running-in-circles-dotcaster.

dont feel ashame to hit and run and kite sometimes… first of all it is not an even fight to begin with… 3 against one? even my tankiest life leach beast caster cant facetank this trio…it’s not a fair fight afterall with Aldritch resorting to hiring henchmen to his cause. To balance the scales…, why dont you recruit some online friends to fight with you?!

One of his minions casts the acid DoT, I forget which though. Prioritize taking out that one first. I have the most luck when I take out minion -> Van Aldritch -> minion. If you leave Van Aldritch for last he heals extremely often, which is a big problem since he has the biggest HP pool of the 3 and the heal seems to be based on a percentage of his max health.

Considering that Alkamos is a skeleton key boss just like Van Aldritch, he’s definitely overtuned. There’s no reason to farm the Aetherial dungeon unless you’re looking for MI’s because it’s such a huge pain in the ass compared to the other two dungeons. I beat Van Aldritch once and have no intention of going back.

would love to know the exact name of thay guy too…

Well, I’m looking for his decree for another build (no crucible).

While I do like the general feel and visuals of PV, I have to be significantly more careful when running it. I die to the mini-davastation of the three watchers if I don’t evade it and Van Aldritch is covered here already.

Compared to SoT or BoC which most of my characters can run half-asleep in much shorter time, the effort/reward ratio seems off in PV (but I guess if you count the sheer number of MIs it might balance out).

Shame that SoT heroes don’t drop crafting mats like in BoC or PV.

I swear all three have flat resist reduction. Garl (i think that’s his name) has an acid pool that reduces your resists, the other one has an shotgun attack goes on an arc that also reduces your resists and Van Aldritch has a flame wave attack that also reduces your resists. All of this and i swear one of the items that passes around between them gives them an ability to reduce your resists with any attack they use.

All this flat resist reduction is kind of overkill. And also, apparently when one dies the others get stronger.
