I completed all quests for the village of crazies and summoned Ravager of Flesh. I thought it was going to be another nemesis battle (can defeat Grava with this character just by kiting away, tedious, but not that hard). Turns out, whole another deal. His hp does not seem to go down much from anything I do. His bleeds usually wreck me, capped resists with 50% bleeding duration reduction (25 from Heart of the Wild, 25 from Aeon’s Hourglass consteallation) do not help.
I understand that I should kite him and cast dots, but he catches up quickly and cuts me with one of his bleeds and I am dead.
Am I over my head here? Because this character is Crucible Gladiator farmer, all gear/skills is maxed out, but Ravager just wrecks me.
I am checking your build and scratching my head… how do you even do damage with this? I mean apart from the totems and doom bolt. What are your left/right click skills? I don’t see much direct damage skills there. Sigil is only good for melee characters as enemies will easily run out of it with ranged ones, and given that you use an off-hand and not a shield I assume this isn’t a melee character.
Well this Conjurer is just an updated version of the Avatar of Solael build from Vanilla…which was after seeing it in action IMO a top five build (obviously slower than a Spellbreaker but A LOT safer). Damage is there it seem strange but it is coming from everywhere and stacking like crazy pretty sure it over-damage a BWC Commando and on-par with the Sorcerer version.
Ravager is a kitten compared to mog, if he was nerfed you could kill him without specialized builds which the devs have pretty much said is what they expect to be required for ultra bosses.
Super bosses are optional so it’s understandable they will be gated to those who don’t have near-perfect builds and while I haven’t been able to kill my Ravager yet (purple one), I was able to put a sizable dent in his health before I stupidly misclicked and ended my existence.
I can’t comment on your build, but from what I’ve seen, if you’re able to tank at least one hit from him with a DoT caster, you’ll be fine. If you’re a melee and can’t facetank him for a few seconds, you’re going to have a lot of problems.
Yeah, it does not look like much at all. I just based it on Superfluff’s Doom-Bolt conjurer. With new items Doom Bolt cooldown is 2,2 seconds, and first cast is a double cast because of Time Dilation. Build is so resilient it’s a bit boring to play it main campaign, I can just run thru areas casting Blood Pox with Twin Fangs, Swarm with Eldritch Fire and Curse of Frailty with Wendigo Mark and everything melts anyway.
But then I met Ravager and I felt like all my super-optimized Gladiator farming gear and build can be thrown out of the window.
My build is perfect tho. My guess is that super-boss requires very specific mastery combo/gear/devotions setup, and that is not dot conjurer. Probably something extremely tanky, like Witchblade or bleed warder with a shield.
I’d say that with a good build, you should be able to kill him once you figure out his shtick. I’ve found with super bosses, you just need to tweak your build to counter their advantages. For Mog, only my old lightning caster could kill him because I had overcapped lightning resist, so I had to swap some gear around on my others to reach overcapped lightning on them as well.
The same goes for Ravager. Whatever he uses for main damage (bleed I think, I die too fast to notice what’s killing me other than him), you just need to swap a few things around so you can tank him a bit more. If you can tank his hits long enough to where you can leech the life back or heal it back, you should be fine, but if your build is pure defensive and no offensive, you may need a friend so you can tank for them.
I abandoned my old retaliation build due to the fact that my damage was laughable, even though nothing could scratch me. Playing as a Thorny Target Dummy wasn’t fun.
Oh, you can definitely kill him [as a VitaCaster Conjurer].

(sorry my post count isn’t high enough to post a picture.)
Took me an hour and a half on stream, kiting around that tree and DoT’ing him down (tanky enough to occasionally drop a large combo-nuke on him with Sigils and Totems). It was the Ravager of Flesh (fighter guy option). Deals pierce, bleed, and phys I believe. Also uses a move that SERIOUSLY lowers your resists (50+ish reduction). I’d imagine a more specialized version could deal with him better; I changed nothing about my base build to fight him.
I never considered to use Bloody Pox as a direct damage spell. I always saw it as more of a way to weaken large groups before you kill them with something else. And 2.2 cooldown is nice on doom bolt, but I believe it is still not a very big area of effect spell. What do you use for left click? I mean Swarm and Curse of Frailty are more like debuffs too, not direct damage.
I found a medal that adds 1k vitality dmg to bloody pox and nerfs mob life regen by 200%. My pox crits for like 14k ticks lol, so definitely doable I think. Seems they’ve added gear to make it reliably melty. And this w pox level 8/5/5 bc I only have 1 point in it plus level ups from gear.
health regeneration min 2000 hp/sec. (with healing rain I had 2900 hp/sec.),
armor over 3000
health-restore-saftey triggers like menhirs will (there are others too, better two then one)
break up the fight and recover, if he gets in his bad mood
and most important
physical resist - min 30%, I had 51%.
even with this equipment my highest damage taken from him with one hit was 12931!
The main problem lies in his unpredictable damageoutput. He tries to lure you
in a state of (over)self-confidence. Everything seems fine, but suddenly he
hit´s you three or four times in a row… if you do not break up the fight, you die.
Unfortunately that’s what happens when you make a boss that hits too hard, you pretty much just make it doable for super tanky builds. And honestly, these types of bosses are super boring to me because they are just damage sponges who deal too much damage.
The only build I’ve seen so far, that is not another retaliation build, to kill Ravager was that Aether Death Knight build.
This is a hc-farming char. His speciality are Fabius and GravaThul (face tank).
And he is used for treasure trove runs. This char is for places, others cant go.
If you want to beat the ravager in HC-mode more or less safely, you going to need such a tanky beast. Otherwise you are taking a high risk of being dead
forever.
