Need critique

Hi all,

Been working on my Pyromancer build, and from both bad luck on items, and a bit of noobishness on my part, I’ve ended up with a mega-glass cannon build that struggles towards the Ult mid-game in terms of durability.

I can wreck things hard, but my jaw’s more delicate than fine china.

I still have another 7 levels to go for cap, and that will be another 7 pts into Physique.

In hindsight, I would have avoided putting pts into cunning, and I would’ve moved pts from spirit into physique.

Here’s my Grimcalc: http://grimcalc.com/build/MYdZRke

EDIT: New grimcalc here: http://grimcalc.com/build/qkUesCa , took the pts from BWC and the synergy and used them to max possession and AotG.

Values are without gear bonuses.

And here’s a few ss’s of my gear and attributes:

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I felt at first that I was on the right track, but, as I failed to allot more pts into physique, plus my poor luck with self-found only gear (I’m not a good trader, and besides, most people want ridiculous stuff for what they have so I just don’t bother), I find myself hitting a wall.

In my experience with trading… most people are very willing to trade around 8 rare mats for most items.

I geared a full markovian witchblade just by doing trove runs and trading mats.

Or of course you can gamble your self, can’t remember the blacksmiths name, in necropolis I believe.

You really need to use more +HP components and I’m sure there are some constellations that can be tweaked a bit to give you more survival.

I had to ditch my old Sorcerer due to her low HP and ended up making a new character. My old one barely had 7k HP and my new one is pushing 15k (last I checked) with the important resists maxed (poison, chaos, pierce). Not only does my new one have more survival, but he hits only about a thousand damage less than my old one on average.

Since I haven’t played a Pyro since early access, I won’t be of much help for the skills and constellations, but you should look into tossing some Mutated Scales in your gear to start tacking on some HP. I would also suggest getting rid of those rings and look for yellow or green rings with HP (400+), resists, and OA. It’s actually pretty easy to find rings with tons of HP, stats/resists, and good OA. Toss in a good component and you can easily jump your HP and resists by a large amount without losing (and possibly gaining) OA.

welcome to Grim Dawn of Physique
ok 4 to Blast Shield,1 Thermine mine and 1 Hellfire Mine ,try max Brimstone and Possession (remove Blackwater Cocktail)
Devotion: sailor’s guide good or %HP or defensive then try to max all resistance or ~ 60%-70% except aetherial resistance (problem for my pyro too) good luck at final boss, take your reward and get out to game menu, delete this pyromancer or feel free to reset Attribute point :stuck_out_tongue: you know what i mean or something like that

All your resistances are too low and none of your items are augmented. This is why your character dies easily.

Not quite sure where to start…

First, your core skill to me is firestrike, with a 2h ranged weapon, in this case Kraken is the most suitable one. However your distribution of devotion is more like a caster, you might want to rethink your investment strategy in devotion.

Second, my understanding of your damage type is fire/burn based because of your firestrike, but your selection of eqs does not quite reflect that…

Third and most important…Anguish as the skill granted by Chain of Anguish, is actually a debuff to the char…throw it to the bin or you would curse yourself and risk your char’s life every 60 seconds:eek:

Last…for the end-game gear selection, for your fire/burn build I would like to recommend Ulzuin’s set, or Hellborne is more a suitable weapon for you…

Ta,
Reyes

Chains of anguish… It wrecks you as hell, drop it. As for weapon, you need weapon that does fire dmg not piercing, Hellborne would be the best here, but if you can get Hellmaw shotgun or flamekeepers reapeter it would be nice too. Lifesteal is next good thing to get - haunted steel in weapon.

Okay, this is going to probably make me sound like more of a noob than I already am, but, I did find an Ulzuin’s Flamespreader a few days ago, and I posted about it feeling like it didn’t do as much dmg as Silverbolt.

Also please understand, the gear you guys see is the only real “viable” gear I’ve found to equip on this character, since I’m going 100% self-found (reason is in OP). So that belt? Yea, the next highest I have is a level 26 gunslinger’s belt that only procs off of dual-wield pistols, and the best PISTOLS I’ve found were Marauder’s (lv 26, again), so FML.

I know I’m supposed to somehow have “BiS” gear for this type of build already, seeing some of the replies here, and I know my devotions aren’t the best, but I’m trying a serious approach to understanding the game mechanics best I can in the short time I’ve been back to the game since Alpha, and right now, obviously, I’m not doing so good.

And it’s starting to get frustrating.

You don’t need any “gears” to beat ultimate. Having the best stuff will make you overpowered, that’s a bonus not a necessity.

What you want are gears that fit, and match your character and your damage type. Don’t ignore yellow green and blue because of the color. An okay yellow or green or blue item that fits is better than a purple item that doesn’t fit, the same way a cheap pair of shoes that match the size of your feet is always going to be better than one that doesn’t, even if those shoes look fancier.

Now I don’t know about your character of the items you have, but if you think what you have isn’t good, I would suggest to have a look at the lvl70 green faction gears that you should have unlocked by now, there is plenty good stuff for every class here that will get you through ultimate.

I would also suggest you to always have a couple accessories/rings/amulets with various resistances with you, that you swap around as needed. Fighting insects? Equip a pierce/acid ring. Fighting bandits? Equip a pierce and bleeding ring. Fighting chthonians? Equip some vitality stuff. Having maxed out resistances at all time is pointless, it doesn’t help you. Having maxed out resistances for the right situation? Super useful. I don’t know about the accessories you have, but you can find some good yellow accessories talking to the various merchants.
