Need help on beating Crate of Entertainment

Crate is the only celestial yet to be defeated for my warlord…
After two whole nights, tens of frustrating runs struggling with Mr. Crate, I feel that grimtool’s info is quite problematic:
https://www.grimtools.com/monsterdb/2253/skills

  1. “4 Summon Limit” on small crates are not true. Mr. Crate will keep summoning small crates, no limit as I can tell, even if I don’t touch him/them at all.
  2. “Lives for 60 Seconds”, “Lives for 10 Seconds” for crates are not true. Once summoned, they will always be there.

These two observations are found by blood and tears… It means that there is a “countdown” for this fight. Once the number of crates surpass your BD defense threshold, it will be impossible to win. Especially for melee auto attack build, an extra difficulty layer of “click disaster”, like “intend to click on Mr. Crate, but he leaps back and the auto attack is redirected to nearby crates, causes splitting/explosion lol…”

AOE is even not taken into account yet… AOE means the hidden “countdown” can be further shortened…

So it seems the only solution is to MAXIMIZE DPS and finish the battle as soon as possible. The shorter the safer, while reducing AOE so as not to trigger small crates splitting too fast…
And a ranged skill should be handy to kill big crate to avoid death explosion.

Correct me if any above observation is wrong… And thanks in advance for any tip/suggestion :sleepy:

Every time a Box dies two are summoned.

Yes I know that part… The question is I assumed "If crates are not touched, there will be 4 + 3 crates maximum on the field. " Looks like the assumption is not right… They will be spawned indefinitely anyway.

Crate is hands down hardest boss in whole GD. I was able to kill him only with pet builds and it was after many tries and some RNG involved. Unfortunately there are not many kills on him documented on videos, especially for melee builds. Do you want to kill him only with melee warlord or you consider other builds? Could you share your GT link?

His crates can eventually “perma die” but it requires a lot of kills on them and he will spawn new anyway so in practice it’s impossible in my opinion. You are right about AOE - if you don’t play pet/ulzin bomberman builds you should get rid of it as much as possible.

Only video with melee killing him i have found:

This guy try to not use AoE (what you know already) and he kite Crate from his boxes, then fight 1v1 him in “free zone” until it’s possible.

Some helpful pic made by Maya:

It’s made mostly for pet builds but you can use these kiting routes for other builds - you can see it in videos. You can also kite him to “if you must die” zone if he has very low health and you are sure you have enough time to finish him or when boxes are just everywhere except here. However it can be very hard to escape from here without Aether cluster and mobility skill so it’s “all in” most cases.

I am overwhelmed with joyful tears seeing your detailed reply… So invaluable… From a true deep passionate GD lover. Cannot thank you more.:+1:

Yes I intend to do melee if possible… switched from Stoneguard set phy reta build to Shattered Guardian set with cadence + Oleron’s Might single target burst & run style. Nope, feeling dps still not enough before overwhelmed by crates. Will surely dig more

You can also see adoomgod’s effort on his youtube channel - I Test Stuff. Look in his video collection for “I’m The World’s Foremost Expert on Killing Crate Entertainment”

Link for video mentioned by Medea:

It was before octavius nerf BUT also before Crate nerf (yes, he was even stronger in testing phase) so it should be still balanced and helpful if you decide to switch your build from melee to octavius. For octavius you can put off points from “Avenging shield” to minimize AoE - you will affect one target with your shield so crates will spawn slower in final effect.

Some thing i forgot to mention in my previous post:

  1. Try to move slowly (but smart), it will minimize chances that some crates will lose agro (they should slowly follow boss) so you won’t meet them stacked in some crucial spot during kiting. What i have observed - if they lost interest on you, they won’t attack you till you don’t attack them or boss in their range. I don’t know if it’s intended mechanic or my luck/glitch/RNG.
  2. Try to cap your stun resistances, these meteors can be deadly if you get CC chained. Sometimes better decision is just going away from their range instead of dancing between them.
  3. Meteors works like Alex meteor - they can be stopped on some walls/ceiling. Dying from them is less likely upstairs in main hall than in starting free-walls location.
