Negative feedback for the visuals of the new UI changes

Feels a bit like I’m in the twilight zone. I see 99% praise in the Misadventure threads for the new UI when it is absolutely, painfully hideous and completely left field. Rigid, oversaturated bright lines with excessive and out of theme filigree everywhere. The gaudy gold lining on everything. Even the “classic” HUD didn’t escape the Trump-ification treatment. It escaped the stupid looking Diablo/PoE globes, but not everything else. I have to hope this is a long con for this year’s April fools joke and everybody but me and the one other dude who dislikes it is in on it.

Either that or I will have to not play the game until someone makes a mod to re-update the color scheme and general design back to the original look. It’s overwhelmingly off-putting. Given the bizarre overwhelming praise, I doubt there is any stopping this train now. I am admittedly a UI snob and don’t play games, no matter how good, if the UI is distractingly ugly.

I appreciate the functional improvements and general updates. I’m normally pretty good about seeing things as “well this is not for me but I can see why others might like it.” I’ve never had a strong disagreement with a single update to this game since 2016. But the visual update of the UI is both ugly as sin on its own and also doesn’t thematically fit with the dark, gritty, semi Victorian, post apocalypse scrounging for survival, Lovecraftian cosmic horror theme, or the original UI vibe, whatsoever.

Posting this just to show that there are at least 2 people who are intensely against the design change, and hopefully thousands more “veteran” players who don’t follow the updates as closely and haven’t seen the change yet.

I’ve been following Grim Dawn for a long time and although i appreciate the other benefits the new interface provides, the gold theme and linings is not visually appealing for the setting of the game we know and love.

But i hate to say it, there won’t be any changes for us, we are the minority here, unless the community agrees and crate change it.

I’ve also done some investigation and it seems this type of gold and linings are also on their town builder Farthest Frontier.

Which gives me the impression it’s the same artist who perhaps overhaul this one, go check yourself for clarification.

I think it looks good. Not that bothered about HUD vibes though.

i don’t mind the filigree changes that much myself, even if i plan on trying to mod the Scrap style back if possible, likewise with the old font, for me the original layout sticking around had priority.
If Crate can manage to have the true Scrapheap pre 1.3 ui as vanilla switch option i’m not gonna complaint and be happy and use the OG for sure.
Letters with serifs, parchment char log, rusty cog border and faded appearance i’m very much used to and enjoy, so that’s the grim look it “should” be ofc.

No it doesn’t look good and no need to motivate such train.

The gold is too much and the linings are all over the place which doesn’t fit here for Grim Dawn, we are not playing a christmas decorative tree game it’s Grim Dawn…

Even on a proportionality design with the gold and all the linings it’s simply don’t look good never mind visually, i appreciate the mechanical side of the UI’s but themely did they butcher it with a degree.

I’m not hating on Grim Dawn, because i love this game and only want the best for it, because after all we play the game, spend or waste hours into this.

I sincerely do hope crate takes this constrictive criticism to heart. I really don’t mind if they delay Grim Dawn further more to correct these matters, because after this DLC you can forget getting more content wise because they will put their time into new projects and/or Grim Dawn 2.

So I’m asking don’t butcher this fucken master piece of a game with these out of proportion designs.
