Hello, in this game you can do silly things like fight with two swords at once or fight with the help of books and skulls and sticks… you can even fight using two pistols! However, the most obvious combination of weapons (aside from sword and shield of course) is inaccessible. Obviously I talking about using a sword and a gun! That way you can chop things that are close and shoot things that are out of reach.
It would be cool to see something like that implemented… like a Commissar/Officer class or something. With the new expansion the amount of class is 9 which is an odd number and unacceptable anyway so we need some sort of new class to get it to the nice and even 10. 10 is such a nice round number… the way it’s supposed to be!
Frankly I can’t see it happen even just from an animation and gameplay standpoint. So when you click on enemy far away you use your gun only, but when you click on one in melee range then what? You shoot while cutting someone up at the same time? I think that would look pretty silly.
Also I can’t comment on a 10th mastery (idk why a 10th wouldn’t be possible but I’m sure someone at crate said at somepoint OK is the last one) but if there ever was I don’t think it would be exclusively for Sword n Gun.
I feel your pain though, I have also always wanted a sword and gun guy, just don’t know how that would work ingame.
A 10th mastery means more than just 1 mastery, it means extra classes to cater to, hundreds of items, etc. It’s not so simple to just add an extra class. And as others have said, this is gds final expansion.
I’m not even going to mention the technical limitations of the engine trying to cope with a melee/ranged hybrid…
Going to be honest I was going to make a thread saying how I want dual wielding shields to be a thing. I see no reason for it not to be a thing. I want a Sundowner retaliation double shield build. Give it to me.
Out of the dual sword, dual book, dual shield and 1 gun 1 sword the last one is the most sensible. I really don’t see the issue… he’d just hold the gun in his left hand and shoot at the enemy and when they come into a certain range he’d slice them.
Switching between weapon slots every couple of seconds sounds like a real pain in the rear. The focus of this game is repetitive grinding and small movements like that have the tendency to be repeated thousands of times over and over again so clunky mechanics like that have a very limited use in such a game.
It doesn’t have to be a class although a class would be nice. And a class is never about just 1 certain thing just like nightblade isn’t all about stabbing someone with two swords and inquisitor isn’t just about shooting someone with two guns. It could be just from items too like dual wielding guns used to be before inquisitor was released… I’d just prefer a class since having 9 classes is not even. There needs to be an even number!
Sounds like the sort of game you need to be under the influence to enjoy.
Why not 3 shields though? Put one on your back too… and add 2 more bucklers hanging from the belt. Although to be fair many shoulderguards in Grim Dawn pretty much qualify as shields so you might actually be right.
Realistically though it would be highly unlikely for 1h melee + 1h ranged to come out this late in the expansions development. Not only would you need to work on the basics like programming/animation/texturing/modeling (for new items of course…) but you’d also have to do a ton of rebalancing and possibly work on enemies as well in this regard.
Perhaps one could somehow make such a class with the modding tools but it would probably be quite a lot of work I would imagine.

Very simple solution - create a spell that looks like a gun attack. Something like DEE with a gun fire fx instead, then just rig a new Anm to put a gun in the player’s hand instead of the melee weapon, like the war horn skills in TQ would replace weapons with a horn.
