New HUD Layout!

I hear you, one of the main things I love about Crate is their ability to listen and change stuff due to the playerbase feedback, and yes I will also probably get a third key myself to help show my support!!! with devs like these, this game is going to ROCK!!!

keep up the great work you are doing devs, your gaining a lot of respect and admiration

as for the minimap, would be nice if it was a choice of where you want it, I would rather like to see it in the top right corner of the screen, but thats just me, but if there was an open to choose where you want it, that would be super, but I love the UI in general, I don’t mind the font, as its clear and easy to read. but at this rate, this game is going to rock and do really, really well, so yes at some point I too will buy a third key to show my support, and I not done this for any other game as I remember

About the minimap, are not you all worried returning it to the top would mean the similar issue as with skills+hp/mana bars (the very reason Crate changed it)? I mean, your eyes will now be fixed to the bottom most of the time, would not be it irritating and/or confusing to have it at top? There is a separate big map for the searching purposes anyway.

yes you have a good point, if everything is at the bottom, it would help, I guess Im used to seeing the minimap at the top, so its just a bit odd seeing it at the bottom,

well, I like to support indie devs, and while PC gaming in general is slipping and getting worse, but with indie studios who are starting to become more common, but if they are too survive they need funds. but if really nice to see devs listen, and you can’t really say that for many big studios these days (blizzard, cough ) I hope Crate goes from strength to strength, and at this rate, I see that happening

so yes, I like to put my money where my mouth is and help support great games, and I know GD will be an awesome game

When i think a little about minimap, it’s better to be down, so when you look down you can see all the info you need. If the map was up in the corner then you would need to look up and down all the time. The same thing i.n.s.a.n.e said.

Sure, with an isometric camera you get the clearest view when moving toward the top of the screen, forward progress in the game should be in this direction as much as possible and as little as possible moving toward the bottom of the screen.

If you’re moving towards the top of the screen that’s where you vision is concentrated so it makes sense to put the map towards the top also.

I’ll also say that I don’t see a reason for the portrait of your character on the HUD, it’s just one more distracting thing :stuck_out_tongue:

You guys are going all out on the hi-res texture maps!
Please don’t lower them on release to meet all the system requirements.

Mug shot isn’t needed
Minimap either accessible with keyboard shortcut or upper right corner
Level can be shown in character page instead of HUD
simple is better

This is perfect. I can truly see this HUD satisfying every hardcore gamer’s need. You’ll be able to watch cooldown’s, hps, and the map all at the same time.

This will truly be an exceptional HUD. I think when we get to actually experience the game (and the new HUD), the player base will come to understand the increased user ability and functionality of the redesign.

Everything combat important is within 2- maybe 2.5 inches with the map logically placed for quick glances and reconnoitering of approaching enemies.

Hardcore will rock!

I guess I have pretty low standards as it looks pretty good to me. I’m a terrible artist though.

To be honest though, the HUD is not going to make or break my game experience. The meat and potatoes of the game’s progress is what I am more concerned with.

HuD’s are a bit evil since they can’t make an experience for me, but they can certainly break it.

I can’t think of many (or any) huds that made me go “oh wow, that’s awesome”, but I can certainly list swathes of “what were they thinking!” ones.

Looking really good. Really liking that everything is now condensed into one area. Keep it up.

I really like the new look!

The combination of iron/brass and wood is nice and the overall look gives off a good victorian feeling.

The only thing that I don’t like is the colour of the font but it is getting there. Maybe less white and more…beige? Whoever played Warhammer 40.000 and painted his figures himself might know of the colour “bleached bones”. That would get a lot closer. :>

Edit: Can we have a compass for the HUD? A really old victorian looking one? I know it is not a top-priority and maybe even pointless but it could do well with quests like “go north and at the tree head west” etc? Maybe? I like compasses. :smiley:

I’ m totally satisfied with the new look. At long last we get a different from TQ ui and this is a huge design leap.

as i said before on facebook, “the old layout” is a lot clearer and looks
less stuffed. it was super easy to find things and you can tell the meaning
of each symbol a lot better. The new layout looks like a mixture of colors
and shapes, the old one had like 2 cirlce symbols in it and the rest of it
was squares, which is a lot easier on the eyes.

Love it, MadWasp! Especially the brutal dmg indicator. Yeah, good old days of perfect shooters. =)

Yeah wolf3d and doom inspired by these legends. Anyway i feel Grim Dawn will be a new icon similar to these legends!

Actually the developers have stated you’ll be able to heal to full within a couple of seconds of standing still in Grim Dawn. The damage indicators for faces only worked when you couldn’t heal at all without finding a healing pot and your character could be in a damaged state for a long amount of time. It’s probably completely unnecessary for a game like Grim Dawn.
