so im a lvl 50 ish warlock, going for the ray build. I just feel really weak right now, progressing in elite. Is it best for me to just pray to RNG and continue through elite? or should i just do boss runs back in veteran untill i have items comfortable enough to progress? I’m open to tips and guides on how and where to farm as well, please help
AAR is a really bad build to go into without gear set up for it fyi. I’d heavily recommend going for some other build for the first time, as AAR is super gear dependent, regardless of which version of it you aim for.
I’d genuinely recommend looking up a good self-found build first, using that, then coming back to AAR once you have a few items for it. The difference between no items for it and just 3-4 is massive, and the difference only grows with more gear difference.
Yeah, AAR doesn’t really get good until you have the gear to put it at skill cap. I’d suggest just grabbing whatever fire/chaos/vitality stuff you can and sink points into sigil & doom bolt. Sigil is a nice life stealer, doom bolt can vaporize just about anything.
You could easily throw together a poison caster Witch Hunter and wipe the floor with everything until mid-Ultimate to get you some gear for your AAR character. Poison builds are laughably overpowered for most of the game and they are really fun to play. I can only hope that Crate understands that some builds being overpowered is ok because you can easily choose to not use them. Too many developers will nerf a perfectly good build into the ground simply because it’s strong.
As for AAR, that build can be devastating, but it does rely on pretty specific gear in some cases.
I am not sure what kind of build you are running right now, but as the others have said, AAR is not a build you want to run without the gear for it.
You could use a different character to farm gear for it, or if you do not have a character to farm for your warlock, I would suggest respeccing.
I would advise grinding bastion of chaos until around lvl60 or so before you start progressing through epic, http://grimcalc.com/build/In8CUSm is a quick and dirty PRM build I just threw together with Doom Bolt and Devastation at level 50 that you should be able to run bastion with pretty easilly, as I assume you are geared for aether/fire due to the AAR build you are currently running.
If you have any left over points, then I would suggest maxing out Distortion in the PRM skill line, and maybe taking OFF and sticking one point in Absolute Zero if you are having issues surviving. After that, it probably doesnt matter much where you put the other points… Maybe take Blood of Dreeg for self healing and max out Doom Bolt and the rest of the PRM skill line or other defesive skills if needed.
You will be able to buy back all the points that you don’t need later and respec back into your original build once you have the gear for AAR.
my first character was an AAR sorcerer… The gear definitely helps out a lot with the build… But some of that you can’t equip till 70+ anyways…
If you want to keep going with the AAR build, I would suggest utilizing the trading threads. If you need specific gear (that you are high enough to equip), it is very hard to get lucking and just have them drop for you. Or even another character…
If you can manage to make it to twin falls, that would probably be your best place to farm for some gear. Just do the wasp farming routes. They are easy to kill and drop good loot. I would do it in elite though. Elite will have much better drops…
