i’m rather new with Grim Dawn and so far a like it a lot! I’ve jumped into it with an Occultist and just finished the Main Story on Veteran. I ended up being a lvl 45 Occultist, mainly using Curse of Frailty and Bloody Pox with some Doom Bolts in between.
I haven’t chosen a second class yet and i’d like to ask for some advise on it before i go for it. With my current build i love throwing the dots, thats exactly my thing However i’d like to be not so overly squishy as when trying the crucible stuff i get killed pretty quick beginning by wave 25 or so …
I’ve loaded my current char into the Build Calculator but since i’m new here i’m not allowed to insert Links, so i can only add in the link as plain text:

Maybe some of you have some tipps on where to move on from here. What would fit in well with my current choices ? I hope i did not screw the char overly yet
If i can have everything i’d like to keep the Debuff / Pox throwing and add in some Tankability. I guess it will probably not end up being able to facetank the entire game but to not have to run from every crap would be pretty nice. If i could dish out some hurt to support the dots on harder targets with that 2H Weapon i carry around it’ll be even better
I’de look at picking Shaman for your 2nd mastery, Vitality Conjurers are fairly popular and capable of handling things when done well.
From Shaman, you’ll want to look at Devouring Swarm for a big debuff to Vitality, Mogdrogen’s Pact (though focus on it’s modifier, Heart of Wild, it’s a big jump in tankiness), Wendigo Totem for big amounts of sustain and possibly Storm Totem with the transmuter.
I’de also recommend trying Sigil of Consumption on the Occultist end for some more lifesteal and area damage. Vitality Conjurers are big on lifesteal through their spells which makes them pretty sturdy when done right.
You should have a lot of options to try there, the only ones i consider necessary are Devouring Swarm, Heart of the Wild and Wendigo Totem, try the others out for yourself and see what works for you :p. Oh, and consider a tome or focus instead of a big club, not very mage-like .
You also could choose as your second class the Nightblade to become Witchunter instead.
It deals more Damage compared to a Conjurer, however you’ll be more squishy.
If you want to do so then go for DEE (Dreeg’s Evil Eye). Your maindamage in the endgame will come from your DoT’s, those can melt Bosses fairly quick and your AOE will become insanely strong
Thanks for all advise! I think it’ll be Shaman then, as being even more squishy with Nightblade does not seem attractive to me right now.
I see the use in Devouring Swarm and Heart of the Wild. However i do not get the point from the Wendigo Totem. As of now i’m mostly kiting stuff around until it drops from the dots and the Totem is a stationary healer if i understood it right. So what makes it necessary to have when i run out of its AOE most of the time anyway ? Does it pump out so much health that i dont need to kite anymore ?
Another point that i’m also not clear about is how i should distribute my stat points. Actually i went for a rough 3:1:1 distribution about Phys, Cunning, Spirit. Does that seem fine or should i set more into Spirit or Cunning ? I’m not really clear so far of the effects they have later on …
Oh and yep i consider switching the weapon, if i find something nice and useful :undecided:
Something to this effect, yes. 12/12 Wendigo Totem outputs 5% + 500 health per half of a second if you and at least one enemy stand in that bubble.
Say you have 10 000 health, you’ll be receiving 2 000 health per second from it. It’s one nice layer of sustainability out of a handful that keeps you alive and enables some amount of facetanking.

Generally, most builds need Physique for the necessary health and DA it provides. That being said, builds take just enough Cunning or Spirit to equip weapons in the case of Cunning or Rings/Amulets and Focuses in the case of Spirit and dump the rest into Phys.
It’s hard to say how much Spirit you’ll need, i wouldn’t worry about your Accessories but Focuses can take a large amount of Spirit to equip, though you should be fine with a minimal amount.
What i do if i don’t plan ahead is heavily invest into Physique only for the first 50 or so levels, then i keep a pool of around 10 or 15 spare attribute points until i’m at the level/point that i can equip any desired gear and see how much i need to invest into Cunning/Spirit to equip it and use those pooled points for that purpose.
If you want an easy way out though, Grim Defiler allows you to reset all of your attribute points so you can redistribute them and can be done as many times as you require, i also think there’s one free reset for characters in the upcoming expansion.

Try faction quartermasters at around levels 35-50. The Rovers have some nice scepters and tomes and i think ones that are suited to Vitality Damage.
