New Player Appreciation

Hey all. Like others I am coming here from the Diablo fiasco.

I picked up Grim Dawn yesterday on a whim and have already sunk 14 hours into it.

I am in love.

I don’t think I will ever pick up Diablo again. This game is just so amazing and deep. Just finished act 2 and I cant wait to dive in again tomorrow. I also just picked up the first expansion within hours and cant wait for Forgotten Gods.

Thank you to Crate for creating this world. This game is truly special and I will be singing it’s praises for years to come. One of the best ARPG I have ever played. Truly wonderful!

Thank you and excited to find a new community!

Welcome to the game and to the forum Liostro. Enjoy them both.

Welcome to the real ARPG

too bad you will be missing the diablo experience on mobile but hey you are most welcome here if you want the updated pc version of diablo 2. Have fun.

also now that you have mentiond forgotten gods, you would be most happy to know that a real paladin class is coming. I am sure after reading this you would be excited to ditch the bad memories you have had of playing the crusader class.

Greetings and welcome to Cairn! Glad to hear you are enjoying Grim Dawn.
If you have any questions, feel free to search the forums for answers (most questions have probably already been asked) or just make a post and ask away. We usually don´t bite.

Don´t mind el critico, he´s infected with the paladin-bug and simply tries to infect everyone else. He´s mostly harmless though. :stuck_out_tongue:

Diablo Immortal was the best thing that could happen to you, because it led you to Grim Dawn :).

I agree! I was thinking the same thing last night!

Thanks all.

Zantai should send a greeting card to Blizzard from his Yacht “Dear Blizzard: Thanks for all the new Grim Dawn players”

Welcome to the fold.

May Menhir protect you, Dreeg grant you vision, and Mogdrogen guide your way.

And as always, may the drops be good and plentiful.

Hi mate,

I’m also a new player and share exactly the feelings you descirbe in your post. I haven’t missed Diablo since I started playing Grim Dawn and it’s a really nice feeling.

Right here with you, bro. Came here from Diablo and haven’t really looked back, tbh. I will definitely play D4 (if it ever comes out) but I am sick of D3 and Immortal is hot garbage. Grim Dawn scratches my ARPG itch perfectly.

Haven’t even touched the game yet but after doing some digging I think this is going to be the go to. My wife and I, especially my wife, loved the diablo series up until 3 like most I would assume. Can’t wait to start sinking our teeth into this once her break from nursing school starts in a month.

Thank you for creating such a great alternative arpg. We’ve been looking forward to a successor to diablo after the Immortal let down and never did like POE that much.

Welcome to the forum and soon to the game. You’ll have a fun Christmas/New Year playing it.

I do have a quick question though for whom ever is willing to answer. Is there any go to for an overview of the story/world building for this game. I haven’t found much that’s not spoiler heavy as of yet. Most of this in game comes from the dialog from NPCs and tomes found about? Trying to get an idea of how that’s presented.

Main quest is told by NPCs but you can get more clarity on some events that happened in the world through lore notes. To give more context to areas.

Not sure exactly what you’re looking for Xenjin, but maybe this will help.

As Norzan said main story is through the various quests, but the lore notes give a lot of background info and also some are individuals’ stories/comments/advice to whoever may read them.

I bought Grim Dawn July 2016. I have played 482 hours according to Steam. I was a big D2 fan - been hooked on the ARPG genre since. Played 800 hours or more of D3 until eventually I gave up hope for it to live up to expectations. In the meantime I played more D2, a little bit of TL series, tried Marvel Heroes and PoE until I got Grim Dawn and all my gaming time is now devoted to GD.

I have not yet purchased the expansion because I have so much fun still with the base game. I first played a Witch hunter but died so much that I switched to Elementalist for my first lvl 85. WH turned out to be my second lvl 85. Since then I’ve gotten level 85 Warder, Pyromancer (my favorite), Spellbreaker, Saboteur. I really like the demolitionist and nightblade masteries overall.

I really like the rogue dungeons and nemesis for end game systems.

In the future I look forward to getting AoM and FG once I exhaust vanilla classes. I love playing all different kinds of builds in these ARPGs even if sometimes i fail spectacularly.

Another game I look forward to is The Last Epoch. The skill system looks very promising.
