New player - Help me choose a class.

Been playing for 30 hours to get a feel. Actually went to the point where I even killed the warden. Now I feel like I got the hang of the game and going to run a new char with an actual build in mind and go even further.

In ARPG games like these where you are pretty much swarmed with boss I like to play a class that allows me to kill lots of mobs (AOE) on screen, hereoes, and bosses. As well as have good survivability.

Problem is…I can’t decide between burning everything to ashes or killing everything with poison.

Both soldier and nightblade look really good as a sub class but I’m still too noob to know which one will help best overall. Maybe soldier because of the shield for more survivability? Or nightblade for more dps?

I don’t mind being melee or range as long as I can kill mobs and bosses on screen with AOEs. If melee benefits more then I’ll go melee and if not then I’ll go range.

I’ve looked at the compendium on the forums but still can’t make up my mind.

Let me know from your guys’ experience what you would recommend.

I would like to be ultimate capable as well. Maybe might try crucible if I get far enough.

So to go fire or poison that is the question.

Witch Hunter, transmuted DEE + weapon component poison skills, easily finish first difficulty

Later on turn it into poison stacker for farming and stuff

Can you explain that more for a noob like myself? I have been running a few up to 40 myself and am still new.

Start with Occultist, max out dreegs evil eye with transmuter(focused gaze) but only 1 point for terrifying gaze

Use completed components Mutagenic Ichor(venom tip ammo) and Mark of Dreeg on items to get poison bomb and dreegs gaze skills

Additionally,
Equip 2x slithtongue ( guarenteed drop from body in the cave next to 3rd portal ) and use shadow strike + poison debuff aura from nightblade mastery

If you want tanky character, Soldier is an obvious choice. If you want AOE, considering most classes have several good AOE capabilities because you will be fighting swarms of enemies throughout the game, and no way around it, so best choices for second class would be Demolitionist (for fire) or Occultist (for Poison). First difficulty is very easy even on Veteran, plus you can respec any time, so either you choose, you will do fine.

Also how did you manage spend 30 hours just to kill Warden?..

Dude all classes in this game has great AoE, can solo bosses and has good survivability.

Just depends the way you build your character, you can build a squish soldier or a tank arcanist.

With devotion you can make any build with a great survivability.

Each class has alot builds, and each has alot variants.

I have 2h sword warder lighting which has a amazing AoE.
I also have Witch Hunter caster poison, sorceress CT aether/chaos Caster, Elementalist caster and etc… Which all my characters can solo crucible gladiator wave 150 and any nemesis on ultimate. I have 12 characters lvl 85 full geared atm.
And shield just few builds uses that, and Soldier has ALOT awesome dps buffs/passives, like Fighting Spirit increases 200% all damage and 200 OA (more critic).

But like I said, any build you can make tank with devotion and 70%+ all resist, and any build you can make with awesome AoE, depends the itens procs and devotion Procs. Youll gonna see which each item has skill’s proc, when you atack youll cast a skill, and you will gonna see on devotion has skills to link and cast when you attack.
Sure, AoE also depends the skills, but you can make a character with single target skill which when you use that skill to atack youll cast 10+ skills with awesome AoE, just from item’s proc and devotion’s proc, my lighting warder is like that uses a single target skill to atack and cast 8~9 skills per second just from iten’s proc and devotion’s proc.

Resist you can get from components, devotions, augments, skills and equips, its easy to get 75%+ all resist, all my characters has.

The tip about that, you make your build, when you are lvl 85, devotion 50/50, and used all skills points, you use your attribute points to use gear, 90% of the builds, its cunning and spirit to wear the gear from ur build and the rest psique.
When you do that, you fix ur resists with components/augments… If even with all that, you have some resist low, or two, you switch one gear from ur set, and uses a green item. The best parts to do that its boots or pants, I usually uses green boots on my characters to get top resists.

And about the Witch Hunter build, has this thread:
http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45635

If you want to destroy wth AOE, guns are a great way to go. A rifle primal striker (shaman based) or a dual pistol fire striker (demo based) make amazing builds for clearing screen quickly.

My recommendation is physical 2h Warder class. Since you are new, you dont have proper items and this Warder can shine with only green items (drop + reputation vendor - choose Kymon´s Chosen for 2h mace weapon).

This char has good survivability and also damage. With this char you can finish Ultimate, farming Nemesis bosses and start trading items for another more powerful char which need specific items.

Thank you very much.
