New player looking for a build with specific mechanics

Hello dear Grim Dawn community,

Nice to meet you all, this is my first post. I bought this game a day ago, I wanted it badly for some time now but I was waiting for a steam sale.

So to get to the point, I do not know anything about builds or numbers in this game, and I am willing to discover all that by myself slowly but surely.

What I want to hear from someone more experienced is if there is a decent build that exists that utilised ranged weapons, with PHYSICAL damage, with hit and run mechanics, which I am so good at. I know a fair amount of people like caster and facetank builds with less effort, but my mechanics on ranged characters for arpgs/mobas are excellent, and is what I find to be the most fun playstyle in an ARPG.

I would also like to mention that I prefer dual wielding pistols, but a 2h Shotgun/crossbow/rifle would be ok too.
I do not own Crucible.

Thank you for your attention and nice meeting you again!

it’s not dual wield but hey, 2H weapons just got buffed.

Thank you very much for your quick insight Kasatscho, much appreciated.

Unfortunately Grim Dawn excels in the opposite thing, “go tank or die” as they say. It goes as far as masteries design, you are not even given tools to play your way. If you look at, say, arcanist mastery, and its skills, there are Maivens sphere, mirror of Ereoctes, supposed to reduce damage, not help to avoid it. And that is the archetypical caster mastery supposed to be glass cannon.

Physical and piercing ranged mastery is also lacking in the main game. Current guns specialist, demolitionist, is more about fire and lightning. Inquisitor coming in the expansion will be the mastery with native dual wielding pistols and piercing support. I hope that support is fitting though, because technically demolitionist also supports piercing, but… not so many people even try to use it for ranged piercing builds.

Look for 2h cadence range blade master.

It is viable, not top tier build but good enough to cruise through the main game.

yeah but that build is hard for 1st character 2hand fire strike commando is better for 1st character here’s mine made grenado flasbang canister bomb and backwater cocktail usless as 2hand cause you deal enough damage with fire strike + set even standing kills mobs in a flash you can’t get those bombs out fast enough to hit any mob enemy. Here’s build 1.0.1.0 Fire Strike commando http://www.grimtools.com/calc/b28EqLVj

Going for a 2handed range build might be difficult as a first character.

Rather try a duel wield pistol fire strike commando or pyromancer.

It was difficult in 1.0.0.9 they made it easy this time 1.0.1.0 just started one without gear from IA cause IA dosen’t work with GOG that I’m using. Very easy now making a ranged lightning demolitionist/shaman. Still have Raka’Jax left on my transfer stash 1 only gear left that’s not in use from 1.0.0.9

Thank you all for your advice.

I’m surprised nobody suggested Commando. Here’s a sample mastery spec based on Cadence:

Physical Cadence dual pistols Commando

I’ve never tried putting together devotions for a physical damage dual pistols build, and so I’m not a good candidate to help with that.

There are a few items that allow you to dual wield pistols, but they’re not hard to find (or craft, if needed).

Good luck.

PS: The concept intrigued me enough to check on how devotions might look. There’s a fair amount of added % and flat physical damage in devotions, if you look for it. But, finding resistance reduction for physical damage to push through mob resistances seems a bit harder than for some other damage types, at least with my first efforts at doing it.

Exactly why is commando (setup you proposed) better and/or easier?
