Ooooohh updates! excited face
medierra, This is exactly what I was talking about in a previous post. This is EXACTLY what I wanted; just updates on what you guys are doing and videos/pictures are a plus.
Nice job.
LOL this thread is the polar opposite of the bitching going on over at the Diablo 3 forums concerning the release delay. I approve!
Can’t wait for more updates from Team Crate.
Hard to compare the situations. D3 was supposed to be released back in December. We were then told Q1. Now, we’re being told Q2. The developers of D3 are lucky that the D2 developers did such a good job with the franchise. They’re able to use their reputation while pushing the game back.
Well there is that fact that they Keep pushing the release date over and over again, but also they they keep on cutting out this and that from the game play. I mean gees pretty soon all you’ll be able to do is walk around with some shabby armor and a simple Club to whack the bad guys with. If they really worked on the damn game for the past 10yrs why would they suddenly now come to the realization that some of the things in the game don’t work correctly or are not needed?
There is really no open world as a lot of games have (Skyrim) all you can do is walk along some path and maybe a little bit in a small open field but apart from that…nada! I think many will be disappointed when it comes out for the asking price of some $65.
But then again perhaps it’s just me ranting in the middle of the night because I couldn’t sleep.
Not really. The people bitching over on the D3 forums feel entitled whereas we on these forums just roll with it. Granted this may change once Crate releases their alpha/beta.
I hate to disappoint people, but Blizzard isn’t at the mercy of the consumer. They could delay the game another 6 months and people would still buy it and make Blizzard tons of cash. Plus Blizzard wants to release it ASAP as well so they can starting collecting fees from the RMAH.
As a software developer I know that shit happens during the development process and testing. That’s why Blizzard has always used “when it’s ready” as a release date. Specifying quarters is a mistake until you are at least 90% certain you can hit it.
I’ve played the beta and knew it wasn’t ready for Q1. The game appears solid, but there are still TONS of issues with the AH and plenty of issues with the items available in the limited beta. And since beta only covers a small fraction of the game there could be many, many more issues with other areas of the game that players haven’t even encountered.
And as far as quarters are concerned, Q1 goes all the way to March 31st/April 1st, but people read it to mean January 1st. The same thing will happen when that first day of Q2 rolls around. “Where’s my game?! RAGE!” But it could be anytime between April 1st and June 30th.
Anyways, my point was that I just like the relaxed attitude of our forums and members.
Sorry for hijacking the original intention of this thread. Carry on.
This does suck, but I think they’ll have runes back in game on release now that the date has been pushed to Q2.
While beta is only a small fraction of the overall game, I suspect you are right about the world not being open and game play being pretty linear. Didn’t stop me from pre-ordering the Collector’s Edition tho
really excited about actually being able to enter buildings on the waterfront (from past videos, I’m assuming we can, and that the building aren’t just for decoration)
this is going to be freakin awesome
There is a difference between this forum and one of Blizzards; its user base. You have to understand how many people are visiting their forums on a daily basis compared to this one. When you have a smaller community, there’s more on the user him/herself to be more mature as opposed to when you have a group.
As for D3 itself, that’s what I meant by using D2’s reputation. The developers set up a bunch of good will; there’s no way that interest for D3 would have stayed as high as it is for the past however many years if it were for D2 being so good. The D3 team knows this, and as you said, they know we will buy it regardless of when it’s released.
My point is people are acting nice and cordial right now. Wait until the game starts to get some more buzz as Alpha, and especially Beta rolls around. I equate it to Path of Exile – another small game that is building steam because people want an ARPG to play. I’m sure the smaller community during pre-alpha was amazing, but now during the beta, people are can be out right disrespectful. It happens when the community grows and it will happen to this community.
Should have some screenshots tomorrow or Sunday - still putting the finishing touches on a portion of the level I’m planning to record some gameplay footage from but you can expect some video in the next week or two.

OK, so we have one out of the two updates ticked off, is there any update on the second most important part of your post? A promise of a video.
Soon ™ - Describes something that we are told is coming soon (game updates, TV shows, etc.) but we have heard it enough times to know better. Whoever is saying x event will occur soon is considered to own the trademark on the word because they have used it so many times.
