New to Grim Dawn

Hello everyone.

I decided to give a go to Grim Dawn yesterday so i bought the game plus all expansions so far, i have always been a fan of this genre of games, i was let down by Diablo 3, i played Titan Quest and Path of Exile, Helsing, of all these my favorite was PoE but im not a player to grind each season and farm maps on a endless loop, i enjoy to be able to play in a more chilled out way.

I have looked into Grim Dawn many times on Steam but i’m not sure about what i’m getting myself into, i saw that there is some kind of co-op and even PvP, there are ways to trade with other players etc, i wonder if this is a game (with all expansions so far) that can pull many hours of game time just by doing the story and side quests?

I noticed that the game has been released in 2016 and as in many games i played i wonder if i’m late for the party, meaning if we will possibly get more expansions for Grim Dawn in the future?

Are there any dungeons or more harder games in the game where one, if manages to overcome the challenges, feels rewarded by those challenges?

About the picture that is attached below to this post my issue is that the ability Tremor i can’t manage to use it or to place it in my hotbar, can anyone help me with this?

Tremor is a skill modifier, it modifies forcewave skill so you do not have to worry about that. Just use forcewave

Welcome to the game and to the forum. :slightly_smiling_face:

Grim Dawn, like it’s spiritual predecessor Titan Quest Immortal Throne, is mainly single player with some multiplayer added on. There are no closed servers, seasons, ladders, etc. If you’ve played TQIT then you’ll find GD similar in many respects since the game is the vision of Medierra, aka Arthur Bruno - Lead Game Designer for TQIT at Iron Lore - and uses the TQ engine, though much modified and improved over the years. Build diversity is a major part of the game, trying out different ways of building the same class. Many of us have thousands of hours in the game without ever touching multiplay. There are plenty of hidden secrets and some areas too.

The base game was fully released from early access in 2016 with the Ashes expansion being released in 2017 and Forgotten Gods in March last year. Development is winding down on the game though so there will be no more big content/expansions for it. However the devs continue to add smaller content updates and balancing patches and will continue to support the game so long as it makes financial sense to do so. Crate are concentrating on other projects, but Zantai - the project lead for the game and the dev who interacts most with us here on the forum - said recently that the new project he’s working on will be of interest to GD fans so we wait for him to enlighten us in the hopefully not too distant future. He also keeps us regularly updated on GD’s development via the Grim Misadventures he posts here

Yes, the game has it’s version of rogue-like dungeons

These need a special skeleton key to unlock, but they can also be crafted at certain blacksmiths in the game (you’ll get the blueprint for this as part of a quest reward). They’re win or die dungeons; if you die then you can’t re-enter in the same play session so lose any loot you haven’t managed to pick up yet. You would have to exit back to the character screen and restart the session again, take another key and try again.

In the Forgotten Gods expansion there is also the Shattered Realm, an endless dungeon where you can test your builds to the limit.

That skill cannot be attached to a hotkey, since it’s a modifier for the base skill. Only skills with square icons can be placed on LMB/RMB/hotkeys.

Welcome, comrade!!!

This game is the bomb!

I also play PoE (love it!), but I play GD even more, because it’s more chill and casually enjoyable, as well as creatively stimulating!

I think the guys above me already did a good job of answering your questions, so I’ll just say a couple things I love about the game that I think you’ll love based on your opening statement;

Character building is very deep, which is accentuated by very deep game mechanics and their interactions (which can take some time to learn). One can lose themself in the quest of puzzling out a new build, between best item options, skills, and Devotions.

If you loved the skill map in PoE like I do, then you’ll enjoy the Constellation map in GD!

In regards to playing in a chill way, the combat in GD can be quite intense at times, but most of the time generally speaking, its slower than PoE. Some may see this as a negative thing but I myself find it to be a positive thing- with more time to think, you also have more time to plan and execute more advanced combat tactics, ESPECIALLY if you’re playing co-OP. Theres just nothing like rolling with a well balanced squad through roguelike dungeons, Crucible, or Shattered Realm in GD, with each teammate watching the others back!

While the game is technically single player, you can absolutely approach it like it’s an MMORPG in the sense of these game modes and dungeons. I never played much WoW, but some of my friends who did compared it to doing raids.

I personally love to use healer builds. On a 4 man squad with my support Deceiver (Occultist/Inquisitor) I’m there just constantly buffing and healing everyone. Feels a lot like a priest! Very fun, for me.

Anyway dont hesitate to take advantage of this forum, theres tons of cool people here to offer sage advice and help you on your journey! You’ve got a lot to look forward to man, I’m envious!
