Nidalla's hidden Hand piercing conversion

Hello,

I am unsure about the piercing conversion on Nidalla’s hidden Hand. The conversion is totally confusing.

Say, Quick Cut procs with flat piercing bonus. Then Nidalla will convert part of it to acid but what about weapon damage? On Grim Dawn combat page it says:

“The order of events for Conversion is as follows: Base Skill > Skill Modifiers > Conversion on the Skill or Transmuter > Conversion on Equipment and Buffs > Equipment, Auras and Passives”

So, with 100 physical weapon damage and 50% Armor piercing (and no other conversions), Nidalla shouldn’t convert any weapon damage as the “skill modifier” order precedes the “equipment” order. If it were “equipment > skill modifier” then 50% Amor piercing converts half of 100 physical damage to piercing damage and part of that could get converted by Nidalla. However, the combat page says also

“No matter where the Conversion occurs though, it is only applied once.”

So after armor piercing conversion (is that technically a conversion???), Nidalla (or any other conversion) shouldn’t apply.

P.S: I’m playing blademaster with very high % piercing damage bonus. I’ve got the double armor piercing Blades of Nadaan devotion. Does Nidalla’s hidden hand decrease my dps or not? In my understanding, it shouldn’t. I like the slow effect of it.

base skill -> skill modifires - > conversion on the skill or trancemuter

  • > conversion on equipment and buffs - > equipment, auras and passives

I do not know perfectly, but I heard this from a friend.

Armor Piercing isn’t technically a conversion, it’s a different mechanic and it occurs last, so if you have 100% physical to acid conversion, a weapon with 100% armor piercing will do 0 pierce damage.

Yeah but OP asked about the opposite case. What if Nidalla has 100% piercing to acid and you have 100% armor piercing on a sword?

Wait for others to give their feedback, but I think only flat piercing damage that you already have (through item stats) will be affected by NHH, not the “physical become pierce” from your weapon.

I would also be interested in knowing how this works exactly.

I’m using this skill myself. I haven’t done any exact testing but it doesn’t feel like i do a lot less dps with it. I do feel like i’m slowing those big physical hitters a lot more. Wich helps with tanking lots of mobs.

Does it work similar to ring of frost? Because that absolutely guts my ring of steel damage(freeze is still worth it though).

But even if it converts the whole skill it should not be too bad, it is only a % of 3 of your wps.

Thx for some answers man. I wish that the “combat mechanics” section on grim dawn page would be more comprehensive and detailed. Also, there should be some additional section (like FAQ) involving tricky stuff.

I got 914% pierce (+410% from cunning) and bonus 83% acid (+122% from spirit) bonuses. Are you still going to argue that my dps loss isn’t significant with Nidalla? Look at my % bonuses. It hurts awful man.

What I’m arguing is that it only converts 30% of the pierce damage from 60% of your wps pool. The WPS pool is only a part of the damage you do. So depending on the mechanics that would be what? Like a 5-10% loss on dps? It’s certainly significant. But so is the slow, depending on wich mobs it works on.

I did notice blind fury slows attacks too, and with veil of shadows that might be enough. Then we could drop this skill alltogether.

I would still like to know the exact numbers to be more informed.

Hmm not sure if all the slows stack. Veil is a debuff so it should, but nidalla and blind fury might not. And if they do stack and multiply, the 3rd one is not really that effective anymore.

Considering all this I will probably drop nidalla.

Veil as you said is a debuff, and slows of that type stack with everything. Nidalla isn’t a ‘debuff’ but a debuffing-attack-effect or whatever you want to call it. Meaning it won’t stack with other similarly worded slow effects. So if you are taking it for the slow and already have Oleron or similar you aren’t getting much benefit at all and it may actually be harming your build (especially if you figure out how much benefit you could be getting from those skillpoints)

It may be worth noting though that Oleron only slows attacks (and perhaps casts? Never seen ‘Slower Enemy Casts’ but doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist…) and won’t slow down movement speed. Nidalla is a global slow effect and will slow attack/cast/movement.
