I have a few questions regarding Nightblade’s dmg and skills:
as of April 2016, is anyone using builds that utilise Ring of Steel and / or Phantasmal Blades as main attack? Are the two skills still viable?
for a DW Nightblade shall I have another support attack, like RoS or PB?
RoS looks like nice AoE, but how does it perform outside Normal / late Normal? I am not hellbent on playing on all 3 difficulties, beating Elite atm is enough for me.
and finally, for a DW Nightblade what dmg should I focus on:
cold,
pierce / physical
pure pierce /or as much pierce as I can/
depending on dmg type I should adjust attribute points distribution, i.e. cold dmg - more spirit, pierce dmg - more cunning…shouldn’t I?
Yes, but neither of those fit the bill, look more at Blade Trap + modifier and/or Blade Spirit (mostly for triggering a devotion effect on blade spirit)
3)DW blade masters use pierce, DW saboteurs are generally lightning, DW tricksters bleed (but a very non-DWy DW build) DW spellbreakers and occultist have several ways they can go (these are speaking in general terms, you could do for example a DW poison blademaster and absolutely rock it as DW poison is heavily devotion based.)
By this, I believe he means using Blade Spirit to trigger a devotion ability - there are quite a few devotions that trigger ‘on attack’, and since you can only bind 1 devotion per skill, you often need a variety of active skills to proc all your devotion effects. Since Blade Spirit attacks frequently, it is very good at triggering these devotion procs.
I’ve yet to see a really effective setup for a pure cold character beyond the “Elsa” build using Crown of the Winterking.
For CC in the nightblade tree Blade Trap + its modifier is far better than the cold ring of steel (although cold RoS isn’t bad by any means) if going full spellbreaker both Olexra’s and Blade Trap eclipse it.
Note that Blade Trap isn’t a hard CC like freeze, but locks enemies in place letting you slice and dice them one-two at a time while dropping their DA by a crazy amount. Also a Blade Trap into a maximized Shadow Strike combo is to die for… (although if you hit a reflect barrier, you WILL die for it - not for HC) and that combo works on heros and even some bosses (you’ll only have like a half second window vs bosses if it works at all though)
You could try this Spellbreaker for a good starting point to a DW Spellbreaker. Although definitly take Blade Trap and Devouring Blades - 2nd best anti trash skill in the game (the first being Olexra’s - that build could be a control master)
Yes, blade spirits hit everything in their radius every per sec, not actually a lot of damage, but REALLY good at triggering any devotion effect you may have bound.
Well…there is only (atm) one problem left - this is my first toon, so I am playing self - found I am afraid it is gonna b like in TQ - some build are plain broken without certain equipment
