Nightfall underwhelming -> should be integrated into Shadowstrike

Hello all!

I feel Nightfall’s damage boost and AOE is very low to make any difference. I feel nightfall has zero purpose since the damage is so low its just not worth speccing at all. Making Shadowstrike into a powerful AOE ability is very much needed for rogue like chars imo since even if they have a lot off dual wielding techniques you cannot use them very well since they cannot tank damage at all.
Implement Nightfall to integrate into Shadowstrike so Shadowstrike will become an AOE target hitting for weapon damage listed + the addition of Nightfall. Like how Blitz + Blindside integrate together.

Making nightfall hit an aoe for 400% weapon damage at max rank, sounds like a bit much :stuck_out_tongue: That being said I totally agree nightfall just doesn’t do much and scales poorly. Even taking it to ultimate levels it just isn’t amazing especially since we already have enough aoe without it. Not sure what I want to do with it, but it needs a change imo

If you can’t tank damage at all with your melee dual wield then you’re doing it wrong

Or playing the character a different way. Not all dual wield builds have to face tank everything, matter fact they shouldn’t be able to unless you purposefully sacrifice damage to be able to. The whole point of Dual Wield is to have higher damage capabilities at the expense of losing the defensiveness a shield grants.
The fact that you are able to Face tank as dual wield melee and still put out retarded DPS is 1 of the things I really dislike about Grim Dawn.

What are your cold damage and frost burn damage %? What is your cold damage % resistance reduction?

Half the time I read something like this, the person isn’t even playing with the appropriate damage type to begin with, and the other half, he isn’t wearing the appropriate gears/devotions/skills and said damage type % is super low.

But why should I wear the “appropriate” damage type? I am not going for cold. I went a pierce route of spec so now that I dont spec the “mandatory” cold for Nightfall I am left with zero AOE? I am Blademaster. Sadly cannot provide you with exact stats/screenshots as of right now because I am at work. Can provide you in the afternoon when I get home.
So if I dont spec massive amount of cold damage for Nightfall, the Blademaster is left without AOE? Doesnt sound good. :frowning:

Nightfall is a cold damage spell, if you aren’t playing around cold damage, you don’t pick it, it’s that simple. Not every spell is meant to be good for every character. You are given options that you pick from to best suit your interests, and Nightfall is obviously not one of those options for you, but will be for another player. An analogy, you don’t see men complaining about women bras that don’t match their body proportions; why? Because men don’t have boobs and bras are made to support boobs, if you go out your way to wear bras anyway, it’s your prerogative and you don’t get to complain about them.

Are you using the dual blade skill line? Plenty AOE there. Put 3-4 pts into Belgothian Shears, Amarasta Quick Cut and Whirling Death and you are good. If you want even more aoe, then you might wanna pick another class combination. Blademasters have arguably the best single target damage in the game already, they don’t need to also have the best group damage in the game as well otherwise they would be OP.

Personally, I think that Nightfall is decent in Normal difficulty when you can first get it. However, the Life Leech is pretty useless later on and the damage isn’t really that great even when you have good +% Cold Damage. IMHO, SS is a single-target high-damage skill for Cold/Poison/Pierce Damage and the AOE is a minor addition - and there’s nothing wrong with that! Not all skills are created to serve two purposes at once.

Having said that, I do take Nightfall when I want to trigger Devotions using SS as the AOE damage with no target # limitation is great for doing exactly that!

Nightfall is actually awesome to trigger devotion procs. That’s the only reason i take it.

Then again, you have ‘good’ 500% cold damage, ‘good’ 1000% cold damage’ and ‘good’ 1500% cold damage. Which one is it? Then you have resistances, super important too. -50% cold resistance isn’t the same as -100% cold resistance.

These kind of posts add nothing if you don’t bring numbers or comparisons with you.

Can Nightfall trigger On Crit Devotion? SO if I shadowstrike and I DONT crit my main target Nightfall can crit and proc on Crit Devotions like Assasin’s Mark?
Is this the same for Ring of Steel? One crit is enough among many targets?

It can trigger any devotion that can be bound to the main skill. Long as you crit an enemy it will activate. Doesn’t matter if it was the one you targeted. If you crit several enemies, assasin’s mark will apply to all of them since it doesn’t have a cooldown.
