Problem: No shot resulting from pressing the left mouse button under the circumstances detailed below.
PC details:
OS: Windows 10
Unusual settings of OS: Make everything bigger 150% (I mention this, as it had two games in the past few years made impossible to control.)
Game version: Steam playtest version 1.3 x64
Noticed on: May 5th and May 6th, 2026
This report was written on: May 6th, 2026
Controls: Keyboard & mouse
Screen resolution: 1920x1280
Character details:
Character class: Reaper (Necromancer first class, Nightblade second class)
Using: Amarasta’s Blade Burst as the default attack when pressing left mouse button
Weapon: Seen with all 1h/2h guns and crossbows
I just noticed this; it might have been in the code earlier, or it might be an intended feature.
For the first time I remember, I play a Reaper, using Amarasta’s Blade Burst with ranged weapons.
What surprises me is that targeting and shooting work differently from how they did in previous builds I played over the last few months. First on the stable version, then on the playtest version.
With previous builds, targeting and shooting ranged weapons went like this:
- Highlight a target by moving the mouse cursor over it (I use keyboard& mouse).
- Make sure that no UI element intersects with the target, as otherwise the gun will not do anything anyway when the left mouse button gets pressed.
- It did not matter how far the target was away, even if I could only see a part of the target on the screen.
- When the target gets a red outline, press the left mouse button.
- The shot would go off then, both sound and visuals.
In the current build (Steam playtest version 1.3 x64), targetting and shooting with any ranged weapon works like this, at least on my game:
- Highlight a target by moving the mouse cursor (I use keyboard& mouse). (So far, so expected.)
- When the target gets a red outline, press the left mouse button. (So far, so expected.)
- The shot may go off (as expected) … or not (unexpected). Meaning, the gun or crossbow shot sound and a bullet or bolt may appear on the screen … or not.
I have not been able to pinpoint exactly under which conditions pressing the left mouse button fails to produce a shot.
Some of the cases where no shot was fired (neither sound nor visuals) were:
Observed case A: (This is what made me think it might be a bug.)
- The target had a red outline,
- AND was within 40% of a screen border,
- AND the last shot was successfully fired at the target,
- AND the player character had not moved (I had the left shift key pressed to prevent any movement),
- AND the target had not moved, at least not from what I saw.
- In other words: Although the shot before that had fired as expected, the second click failed to produce a shot.
Observed case B: (This was what made me think it might have been an intended reduction of ranged weapon radius, but with not all features implemented yet, see case A.)
- The target had a red outline, but it was outside of a radius of around 60% around the player character. Measured from character to screen border. In other words: The shot range appears to have been reduced by around 40%.
