No deer? You ain't lookin', game!

I keep getting a message over this or that hunter’s lodge that the hunter hasn’t spotted any deer for a while and maybe I’d better move the lodge somewhere else. There’s a “deer” icon right nearby. I examine it, and there are deer wandering around right outside the hunter’s lodge! If he ain’t seein’ ‘em, he ain’t lookin’. Bug?

Are you moving the Hunter Cabin or its assigned work area? You don’t need the Cabin too close to the Deer, you can set the work area wherever you’d like, preferably over the Deer icon though

What could happen is that it’s an updated cabin and the hunter has placed some traps.
Once traps are laid down, the hunter will spend a lot of time checking those and not chasing dear which leads to this message.

For my part, I do lots of traps around the hunter’s cabin because it generates a lot of the resources I’m missing. Once I have barns, no need for the meat, however, tallow and pelts are really what I need and traps fill that need.

I haven’t messed with traps, for the reason you mention – they take too much of the hunter’s time. This is another good reason that an update from hunter’s cabin to hunter’s lodge should come with two hunters – one to deal with traps and one to hunt down deer. That would vastly increase efficiency.

Good tip, and I only recently figured that out! LOL! Eh, I’m a little slow. :upside_down_face:

But what I’m seeing is I get that message when there are several deer right next to the lodge! Hasn’t seen any deer? He ain’t lookin’!

Or rather, they ain’t seein’ where they’ve been told to look!

Or in one case I had, where I built what turned out to be a really heavily used track through the game patch, every time the hunter went out looking all the traffic through the place had scared away the deer before the hunter got there! Moving the hunting circle away from the track, and the icon, netted plenty of game as they fled into the hunter’s new zone of operation…
