Noob cheating GD Stash but still dead on Ultimate

Hello, I am noob here, just finish Normal and try to master this game. I curious how feeling when I play on Ultimate like youtuber guys, kill all monster easily. So I use Grim Dawn Stash to build all legendary gear, calculate resistance to max 80%. The atribute points and skill is just enough to inscreasing physics, cunning, spirit. Everything fine until I get killed by Barrog, the Bloodied, the first boss I face, elimate all its monster seem hard too. I play comando (demolitionist and soldier), maximum Blackwater cocktail and Grenado, I even can not use my sword. Run around them and bombing them.
Why they so strong ? Is that Ultimate people will face ? How those guys on Youtube play so easy ?

My settings:
Base game no dlc

My build:

My masteries:
Commando
Max Blackwater coctail
Max Grenado
Vindictive Flame
Menhir’s Will

Thank you for reading.

Welcome to the forum. :slightly_smiling_face:

You haven’t imported your character into grimtools properly.

To upload your character to Grim Dawn Build Calculator click the ‘import’ button in the upper-lefthand corner. If you have cloud saves enabled (enabled by default) your save file will be in \Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata########\219990\remote\save\main_{character name}\player.gdc

Otherwise it will be in \My Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\save\main_{character name}\player.gdc

Then click on the ‘share’ icon and copy the link shown to paste here.

because they don’t just mix random stuff together and pray it works ?

you have low effective armour, so you’re not just taking increased physical dmg; you’re taking guaranteed physical dmg
you have a mix match of skills and items that don’t synergize well together. Phys dmg, pierce dmg that gets wasted on your chosen skills and attacks.
Your blackwater cocktail is doing fire and chaos dmg; you have few items boosting this
your grenado is doing mostly lightning dmg and then some fire dmg; you have very little supporting this

so your attack % dmg are weak
your offensive ability is low so attacks you do make are probably missing a bit more than they should

you have basically no healing so any dmg you take will take extra time to recover from

your health pool compared to level (specially compared to class) also isnt’ that great, so you can soak less dmg before it becomes dangerous

you have 0 devos

basically you cheated the wrong way, you can’t just slap rando stuff together and expect it to work “even if it’s using legendaries”; it’s about picking fitting combinations.
You didn’t even need to use legendaries to get a workable Ultimate experience, because once you get the hang of putting stuff together you can get by in greens.

i would start by actually looking at the build guides you saw, take note of how they pick items that synergize with their skills and char/build. How they cover other stats than just resists, their devo combos for XY char/skills/build/dmg type etc
That is to say there is a reason why people picked the things they did, buffs, passives, items, devos, and there is a method to them stringing it together in their final build/char; you should try to observe that first, even if you spawn legendaries with GDstash.

I think op would have spent less effort following a beginner build guide and actually trying to grasp core game mechanics instead this.:rofl:

yea,
i’d almost guess OP didn’t use one of the beginner guides because they state AoM+FG, so possibly didn’t think they were relevant for just basegame chars

Game is not easy, cheating gear doesn’t help you learn/understand it.

Play Veteran instead of Normal. You’ll get your ass kicked. But you’ll learn how to play the game much better.

You should equip some items that add direct damage to your skills. These are often rare(green) items. Type in “Grenado” into grimtools item database, and see what comes up. You’re looking for things like “300 fire damage to Grenado”

Using your devotion points would really help too. Even the best build will struggle with 0.

Lots of issues here. None of the good buff skills, no devotions, no resist reduction other than Agonizing Flames, no OA (a common problem on Commando, but it’s not usually that bad), no damage types even to 1000%, no augments. Spawning gear to match someone else’s character might teach you something about the choices they made, but spawning random gear with knowing what you’re looking for won’t.

Normally on a Commando I’d point in the direction of Sunherald’s Claymore to run 100% fire Blade Arc or Forcewave, but without AoM you can’t get one of those. So… it’s been a long time since I’ve built for the base game, and I left the devotions incomplete because I don’t remember which ones are from the expansions, but here’s a first attempt at a phys forcewaver that will definitely clear the base game campaign on Ultimate - take a look at how every single item actually contributes to the build with physical damage bonuses or high generic stats.

You can get better still by building fire damage around Shar’Zul’s Worldeater, but I leave that as an exercise for the reader.

Thank you all guys for helping me but where I can farming those items, is it random drop ? May I just farm on Normal or Elite before go on Ultimate.

MIs can be farmed where relevant monsters are at player level equivalent, doesn’t have to be Normal/Elite/Ultimate specific just in an area that scales to char level (ex act 1 on Normal doesnt’ scale to lvl 80)
Epics and Legendaries (blues/purples), and blueprints, will be random, just need loot sources in areas scaling to high enough level.
Faction items just require Revered reputation

Again, key is not just slapping on the items/“getting” the items, but understanding the various stats and combos/why the builders picked and combined the various things, skills/items/devos/comps the way they did.
If you “copy” such approach/build attention you will be able to a fine time on Ultimate even in non-special gear

did some examples that might help illustrate couple differences
budget bomber/“beginner end” Commando, Level 85 (GD 1.2.1.2) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator
bomber near end Commando, Level 85 (GD 1.2.1.2) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator
budget forcewave Commando, Level 85 (GD 1.2.1.2) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator
forcewave near end Commando, Level 85 (GD 1.2.1.2) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

*remaining resists need to be shored up on affixes on MI/crafted greens - shouldn’t be difficulty given the amount of greens vs resistances left

hopefully this can help give an idea about build approaches

My recommendation is that you play the game, if you are going to be cheating from the beginning you will not learn anything, not even the basics.

Only playing the base game is harder then it is playing with all dlc. Also commando is not the easiest class combo.
If you want to beat the game with great ease then play a pet class with a focus on resistance reduction for the damage the pets do. And give yourself a more defensive build then the top builds do. You will then be able to do all bosses+ shattered realm 80+ with inferior player skill.

A conjurer class is very easy to play with pets, there are also a number of other easy conjurer builds. It is really tanky thanks to the high physical resistance. In my opinion conjurer class is one of the easiest class combos to play. It can be played with or without pets.

Most double rare monster infrequents are better then legendary gear for regular builds. It is just that the drop rate is very low. The drop rate for double rares is quite high in shattered realm 60-80, and you do not need GD stash once you have a build capable of beating that. If you like the game consider waiting for a sale and buy the rest of the dlc. The story in the dlc is quite good. Also the builds you can do does increase quite a bit. The game does become very easy with all the dlc, and you can only really die in high level shattered realm with a good build.

I beg to differ; I still think MC ultimate can kill glassy builds or even moderately tanky ones if you’re not careful sometimes. I wouldn’t call the game easy imo.

Self-assured players often end up dying in Act 1 on Ultimate difficulty more than you might think. They get too comfortable, thinking everything’s fine and they can handle it, but sometimes survival is just brutal—especially with the Totems. If you lose all your buffs due to Arcane or Mage monsters, and then Sunder effects (which increase incoming damage) come into play, not to mention Leech monsters or the annoying boons from Healers or other cranky DoT Monsters… then run as fast as you can. Otherwise, you’ll be RIP in 3-4 hits, even if you’re a tanky Warlord or Vitality Conjurer. It’s easy to lose track and get hit with badly rolled stats.

Yeah, “normal” mode can actually be seen as a bit of a guide, showing how the game is structured and where everything is—kind of like a self-explanatory tutorial. And once you get to Elite/Ultimate, the game starts ramping up.

Edit: And “Normal-Veteran” ist not quite hard, only Act 1 is Difficult without any good Gear and Weapon. After that, it’s a normal Gameplay.
