So this has been happening a lot in my games that I end up starting a new game each time. My people eventually stop collecting wood. I’d have them literally stop everything except collect wood but all they will do is run around in circles.
Do you mean they won’t collect the piles of logs, or that they won’t chop trees?
They won’t chop trees.
Oh I haven’t had that problem. That must be a bit of a game-breaker

Marking everything for harvest is a never ending process as more and more of the map becomes visible and all that stuff has to be marked. Sort of a pain in the ass (its visibility should just make it marked automatically).
Yap, I made sure to order them to collect a smaller amount of trees and still nothing.
I have had this problem on multiple towns now. They won’t chop trees at all no matter how many you have selected. They will happily mine stone like 0.7.5 is about to drop and all the stone will soon vanish, but if you remove all the stone from the harvest list they will just wander - unable to work. That said, there is a workaround, and what’s more it seems to actually fix the problem for me as well.
Build a work camp. The work camp workers are forced to chop trees by their programming (especially if you set them to trees only) so they won’t be affected by the tree huggers in town and you can get logs. More importantly, every time I have done this, all the other laborers suddenly remember that trees can be cut down and they get back to work. It may be a coincidence but it has worked every time now (well three times out of three).
In fact, I just had to do it again a bit ago, and I had a huge section of about 30 trees go from ‘we won’t touch it’ to clear cut wasteland in about a season. The instant I told my work camp people to start, I had a full parade through down town of laborers headed off to cut it down.
