Occulist Bloody Pox HC Veteran

RIP level 32 due to carelessness. (Harcore Veteran)

2017-07-04 : Started a new character again and I am slowly updating and correcting this guide.

Pros

  • Clears groups quickly
  • Really fun DoT’s
  • Different playstyle

Cons

  • Often a lot of kiting
  • Slow boss fights
  • Really dangerous to play

Masteries
Basically the idea is to feature and max Bloody Pox and Possession as quickly as possible. You use the other skill points to improve your survivability. Like the Hellhound as a tank and Blood of Deeg for healing.

Level 10

  • During the first few levels add points into the occultist mastery until you can get Bloody Pox, then for the next few levels spend all your points into Bloody pox.
  • Max Bloody Pox
  • Add one point into Dreeg’s Evil Eye
  • Add one point into Blood Burst
  • Then add mastery points until you have 15 points in Occultist but add one point into Focused Gaze along the way
  • Originally I placed Fevered Rage but I don’t recommend it. Especially not HC or Veteran.
  • Add a point into Blood of Dreeg. (Level 11)
  • Solael’s Witchfire won’t help you until you have Wasting.

Level 20

Level 30

  • Try to get Possession as soon as possible.
  • You can replace Deeg’s Evil Eye with Doom Bolt if you want. After you get 1 point in Black Death.
  • Add one point into Summon Familiar.
  • Rest of your points go into Black Death.

Level 40

  • Get Possession First.
  • Work on Solael’s Witchfire next.
  • Then Aspect of the Guardian.

Gameplay

  • Use Blood of Dreeg whenever you lose a bit of your life
  • Use Bloody Pox on the strongest enemies and watch it spread as you kite
  • In the beginning you will have to kill the Aether Crystals with melee attacks
  • Use Bloody Pox on Aether Crystals to eliminate the spawns
  • Use Dreeg’s Evil Eye when Blood Pox is on cooldown

You will have to kite the mobs but they should down relatively quickly. You will have to use mending potions during boss fights.

Stats
For stats delay adding them until you are sure what stats you need for gear.
I added a balance of Spirit and Physique for Scepters and off-hands.

Gear
Look for gear with Bleeding, Vitality or Poison damage, Health or Energy depending on your needs otherwise Spirit is fine. I would also suggest getting a good balance between Health and Health regeneration for survivability and Energy regeneration for sustain although survival is better if your playing HC like me.

Vitality Damage is the priority.
Then look for either Poison or Bleeding damage

Faction Gear

  • Rovers

Elemental, Aether and Piercing damage will have no use in this build currently or at all. Physical damage only helps if you have “convert physical” into our main stats. Aether is only an option if you have Arcanist second class with Aether ray.

Components
It depends on what you have available.

  • Serrated Spike [12% Increase in bleeding damage]
  • Polished Emerald [+8 Physique, Cunning and Spirit.]
  • Mark of Deeg [Acid and Poison damage and good AoE]
  • Hollowed Fang [Vitality Damage and Leech]
  • Soul Shard [Vitality Damage and Resistance]
  • Mark of the Traveller [Movement Speed and Health Regeneration]
  • Unholy Inscription [Vitality Damage, Offencive Ability and Resistances]
  • Ectoplasm [Energy Regeneration]

Relics

  • Deathchill [Vitality Damage]
  • Equilibrium [Elemental Resistance]
  • Rampage [Bleeding Damage]
  • Sanctuary [Survivability]
  • Bone Talisman [Damage and Energy Regeneration]

Devotion

  • Eldritch Crossroads
  • Bat [Bloody Pox]
  • Remove Eldritch Crossroads
  • Eye of the Guardian [Dreeg’s Evil Eye] or [Summon Familiar]
  • Ascendant Crossroads
  • Chaos Crossroads
  • Affliction [Solael’s Witchfire]
  • Remove Ascendant Crossroad
  • Primordial Crossroad
  • Eel (Survival + 5 Primordial)
  • Wendigo (skill optional)
  • Fox
  • Abomination

Optional (To build Abomination)

  • Spider
  • Vulture
  • Wendigo’s Mark

Class options (Core build - use these as guidelines only)
Nightblade for Bleeding and Bladebarrier for defence 27 points left
Arcanist for Aether Ray (replace Deeg’s Evil Eye) 18 free points

Witchblade is also a viable route. (Soldier Combination)

  • Mainly for the defencive element

Unless someone is interested in the complete build right now, just message me or ask questions on this forum, I will relax the updates of my build a bit to play World of Warcraft again.

bloody pox is an amazing trash clear (at least before lv75 or so) and fun to use too. Just beware of the transmuter on it on hardcore, buffing everything offensive ability and total speed is super risky. It can mean you just get crit 20 times super fast and die instantly

Yeah I realized Fevered Rage is too risky too use and it makes kiting a lot harder, especially bosses.

Have a look at this:

Bloody Pox is risky only in the beginning, but for sure is not a suitable skill for HC character
