Occultists should not be "Witch Hunters"

I think you’re saying two things here:

  • Even if you renounce your WH title, you can still hunt [other] witches as a witch
True, but the game retains your WH title even if you put points in Occultist. And one simply cannot be called a “Witch Hunter” if he himself is a witch.

  • Having witch skills does not make you a witch
    Then what does?

Zantai mentioned Blade as his first example of “using their powers against them.” But there are some nuances here. Blade is only half-vampire and received a thoroughly pro-human upbringing. There are also a racial dichotomy between humans and vampires - they are biologically and culturally different, bar none. So there is no issue with Blade being a Vampire Hunter - he himself is not 100% biologically or culturally a vampire.

But what of witches and humans? Witches are humans too. So what distinguishes a witch from other humans? They would have to differ only through their actions. But what actions exactly? That is the issue here and what lore needs to expand on.

I love the human need to categorize everything by rules that are so rigid.

  1. Do we know how one goes about becoming a Witch in Carin?

  2. There is no Witch class. So player characters cannot be a Witch.

  3. Occultists are not Witches; they are Occultists (See item #2). Occultists just happen to somehow tap into the Witch gods power, and, apparently, the Witch gods don’t care.

  4. People can self-identify with a group, or not.

  5. People can decide to identify a person with a group whether or not that person wants to belong the assigned group; or is even aware that others have placed them in a group.

I am right. All others are wrong. Why? Because that’s what I decided.

thumbs up for a very clear explanation. Even a mindless dummy might understand the point.
