on conversion

feel like greater in-game clarity on conversions would be benefitial,

its hard to tell if it only affects a single skill, all “weapon attacks”
or all scources of specified damage

also weather it includes retaliation damage
(which im assuming would be noted if it did)

on that note, its be nice if said conversion would be made visible other than the single instance of the skill/item where it states conversion hapens
(ie, make the skill/item, change damage tags, or add it to character window that x damage is converted)

also not sure if i just missing it, but would be cool to alter visual effect to match conversion (ie, colour change)

It depends on where it is found. Global conversion effects pretty much everything (skills, gear procs, celestial powers, flat damage etc.) whereas conversion on a transmuter or skill modifier only effects that skill and any damage added to it after that conversion takes place (such as from auras or passive buffs).

also weather it includes retaliation damage
(which im assuming would be noted if it did)

Retaliation damage cannot be converted. There is no way to do it currently.

also not sure if i just missing it, but would be cool to alter visual effect to match conversion (ie, colour change)

You’re not the first to ask this :p. As much as I’d love for this to happen as well, what I have gathered is that graphical changes like this have to be done manually instead of dynamically. Implementing the latter I imagine would require changes to the engine to allow it.

This topic and comment from Zantai cover it good enough:

“it depends on where its found”

thats my point though, its not always immeadiately obvious the scope of the conversion.
ie, skyfire grenado, is obvious it converts the damage on grenado

and its assumed that cults consecrated blade (solael’s toggle skill modifyer)
would affect “weapon attacks” obviously base attacks, but does it cover
skill based weapon attacks also?
so it should cover cadence cause thats a base modifyer,
but how about blade arc?

and an equip like warpfire is open to interpretation,
it seems like it could be “global”,
but just as easy, could mean, on sloted weapon attacks only,
(and presents the above issue of, just base or skills also)

id propose a (tag) on conversions to state (on skill), (global), (base attack),
(“weapon attacks”)

which brings up the issue that “weapon attacks” requires clarification
to state wether AND when,
it reffers to only basic weapon swing (and base modifyer ie cadence)
and if/when it includes attack skills (ie blade arc)
and just to be thorough, quantify skills vs weapon attacks

where as imo, its not obvious wether a skill like dreegs evil eye is actually a “skill”
or constitutes a weapon attack

with the amount of identical items (recoloured)
id have thought they had that option on engine,

not that i know squat on development, but not innately having the ability
to apply a simple recolour, seems like a prety decent *oversight,
given the effort it takes to make each item/icon/effect

(* in engine choice, but also in the creation of said game engine, though ofc other factors are more important)

I don’t think we need this, really. It just takes a few minutes of familiarization to learn what these things mean. There are only two types of conversion. Global and skill conversion. Global conversion, as in warpfire is stated like that in all items that provide that kind of conversion. So since you already know that Warpfire’s conversion is global, you should already know automatically that the conversion in the case of Decree of Aldritch, for example, is also global because it’s put in there the same way as Warpfire’s. You already got skill conversion right in Grenado’s case, which is also the case for all non-buff skill transmuters with conversion (phantasmal blades, corrupted storm). Meanwhile consecrated blade is global because the conversion is added to a buff skill (Solael’s witchblade)

where as imo, its not obvious wether a skill like dreegs evil eye is actually a “skill”
or constitutes a weapon attack

Is there any ‘official’ ‘weapon attack’ term in this game? I think it works like this: if a skill scales off attack speed then it’s a weapon attack, if it scales off cast speed then it’s not, regardless of whether it has weapon damage or not. As of now, then only ‘weapon attacks’ are the default attack replacers (cadence, FS, etc), untransmuted Blade arc and transmuted Primal strike, iirc. All the rest are spells. The easy way to remember this is to ask yourself the question “do I throw shit when I’m using this skill with a melee weapon?” If yes then it’s a spell. If no then it’s a weapon attack.

Regarding color changes with conversion: we all want that, yes. Sadly, as Evil_Baka said, it’s not that easy and if it must be done manually that’s why we can only find those things in specific items/transmuters like farath cube and corrupted storm.

Sure. If by oversight you mean an engine whose first iteration first saw light in 2006.
