[EDIT: Got referred to crafting the Dynamite, thank you. Still wouldn’t mind a quest item for the side-area’s on alts though!]
tl;dr Dynamite should be replaced to avoid backtracking in open world with either a permanent quest item to unlock all side-areas, or should be craftable for some cheap components. Scroll to end for suggestions.
The first time I used Dynamite to remove the blockade for the Rovers was a good lore experience for me. Like upgrading Devil’s Crossing with Barnabas’s water mill and the Seamstress her cloth tents, a permanent change in the world because of something you do as a player is an enjoyable experience.
However, now that I’m on my fifth serious (ultimate) character, I’m beginning to feel that the need for Dynamite is beginning to feel like a hassle. If I work my way through a little bit overenthusiastically due to a newfound awesome build, I sometimes don’t pickup quite enough Dynamite.
Standing in front of a blocked area, like the one that leads to Tyrant’s hold (3 dynamite), can be quite annoying. Having to go back to an easier area to farm dynamite for that is moreso annoying.
If that is where it ended however, I wouldn’t have written this post. Dynamite has another function, and for those who have played long enough to start dismantling their duplicate legendaries they will know the ridiculous price for that, and the mediocre returns.
My last one; A hellbore 2handed rifle, dismantled for 6 dynamite returning 1 tainted brain matter and 5 scrap. I mean, really? It’s almost worth it to just drop my duplicate on the ground for that. If I need a tainted brain matter, I know of faster ways to grind it than to farm 6 dynamite and leave the dismantling to chance of getting something else entirely.
My suggestion consists of three options, keeping in mind to preserve the lore feeling in the game with minimal inconvenience in the endgame;
1) Remove, change or reduce costs of dismantling items.
2) Exchange Dynamite for a Dynamite Kit quest item, that once obtained in the first mine, allows you to unlock every dynamite side-area. This way at least you don’t spend 90+ dynamite on unlocking the game with each alt.
3) Keep the costs the same, but vastly improve the dismantled loot (for every dynamite used, generate one heart/blood/brain for example).
