What will be the advantage and disadvantage of each weapon types.
From what I can see right now, for most build that utilize damage that are not physical, scepter or dagger is always better as you don’t need to convert any damage to your damage choice.
Please enlighten me if I am missing something, because I really want to build a character that are using Mad Queen’s claw.
I have a dual-wield Blademaster (Nightblade+Soldier) and I plan on using the Mad Queen’s Claw for sure. If your build is heavily Acid+Poison based and melee, it is the ideal stuff for you.
Otherwise, as you say, scepters/daggers are for caster type builds whose main damage does not come from weapons. In those cases the +% elemental/etc damage suffixes are more important.
Otherwise, all Swords have a certain amount of piercing damage so again, natural for Nightblade builds that do such damage, plus they have the highest weapon speed. Axes have normal weapon speed and are the “inbetween” choice, while maces have slower weapon speed but higher damage.
Some devotions only work with certain weapon types, like Blades of Nadaan only works with swords, Berserker only with axes, etc.
I’m using a mad queen’s claw right now on my witch hunter and she shreds most content. She needs better optimising on her other gear to make her viable for some of the harder fights but she is on the right track and I think mad queen’s claw is pretty awesome. Unfortunately no attack speed. Also I think you are missing a few things about weapon types and why conversion is actually really handy to have. Scepter and dagger are not the best options unless your build is optimised to use them. If I switched to dagger or scepter on my witch hunter she’d lose a staggering amount of DPS. Also I would not run two mad queen claws on the same character. One claw and a weapon with good attack speed as the secondary for dual wield.
You kind of have to take a lot of weapons on an individual basis (particularly if they’re part of a set), but OVERALL:
Swords tend to work well with Nightblade mixes in particular because they tend to have a lot of armor pierce. From my experience they tend to swing a little faster, too. The sword-exclusive constellation is decent and facilitates armor pierce conversion on one of its nodes.
Maces generally have no armor pierce barring a couple fringe cases like the Venomblade mace. If you don’t care about pierce damage, these are ideal. They tend to swing slowest on average (but this is generally easy to make up with attack speed buffs). The mace-exclusive constellation is actually really nice because last I knew it grants DA bonuses on at least one node.
Axes occupy a middleground for attack speed and armor pierce characteristics, as near as I can tell. Axe constellation is heavily tailored to bleed builds (but still has some other nice perks) and a number of unique axes are bleed-focused.
Daggers and scepters are generally for mages or “gish” builds that are at least partly magically focused, but some daggers are VERY nice for actually whacking enemies with. Fang of Chthon comes to mind for something like a Chaos witchblade, for example. The only constellation I know of that offers benefits for daggers and scepters is Oklaine’s Lantern, which I don’t think I’ve ever used.
This is usually true but some builds have items/skills with a lot of flat damage that can be converted to another damage type and then having the conversion is good because you have an opportunity to get extra damage.
Ahhhh, I see now. The “armor piercing” in the sword and axes is actually converting the physical damage to piercing damage.
That is why Nightblade build that are using swords also taking some skill tree that increasing Pierce damage on top of their main damage type like acid, cold, etc.
Then if you don’t care about Pierce and you just want to focus on one magic damage type like acid, elemental, aether, chaos, etc; picking up dagger or scepter is better than sword/made/axe, yes?
While you can focus on one damage type you wouldn’t be able to have a build that was entirely just one damage type. Crate has balanced the gear near perfectly to concentrate often on two damage types for build diversity and because many enemies have really high resistance to one damage type by not another. The best weapon for your build is the one that does what you want it to do. The only reason you might specifically pick a weapon like a scepter or a dagger is if you want to take advantage of the lantern constellation which requires it. There are constellations you can only access if you use the weapon type required.
While the deathguard blade is a great option if you are using a necro and can take advantage of the bone harvest benefits, the mad queen’s claw is the better weapon for builds that don’t use necro in my opinion. The reason for that is the proc on it does so much that is necessary for survivability. I just completed challenger crucible for the first time. Without the mad queen’s claw and that proc I don’t think I’d have been as successful. The reduction in enemy health is quite telling and the ADcTH is a real life saver. Also if you are using Belgothian’s shears and you attack fast enough you constantly get 60% of attack damage converted to health every 1.5 seconds. The queen’s bite proc also hits in an arc and affects five targets. It is an amazing weapon.
